Complimentary Consultation

By
Home Stager with Hallmark Sotheby's International Realty & Joyce's Interiors

I just read a post that had complimentary consultation as a don't.

Has anyone offered an incentive to realtors/homeowners?

I have an appointment with a representative from Valpak ( the coupons that come in the mail) next week and wondering what a good approach would be if I chose to go forward.

Thank you for your ideas.

We tried it in our market. It was great exposure and we tracked 2 home sales from it over 4 months. The cost ate up one sale. It will get you exposure!

Realtors have used val-pak here for years. They try it for a while and then leave the business. I think it is expensive. It usually only works if you give something away of value, as cut commission or free upgrades. The discounters use it, but I think to offer a "free consultation" is bogus, as most people already know they can get a free consultation just by calling anyone. Offer a free home inspection, or a free furnace, or something-maybe a military discount?

I think for the money there are better ways to advertise.

I think that the valpak advertising will get your company exposure -- it is great to get your name out an what you do in front of people as much as possible.  I agree that it may not be the most effective use of your marketing $$.  Do you really want to spend your time driving around, giving advice for free.  I've never given away a consultation except to a realtor, where is has benefited me over and over again as she now stages all her listings.

Margaret, Dennis and Laura;

Thank you for your comments.  I have decided not to offer a complimentary consultation after reading your thoughts. I'm thinking of offering $50.00 towards an initial consultation.  I'm meeting with the rep. from ValPak tomorrow and will discuss the options with her.

I have used it in the past for my real estate business and did fairly well, it's exposure, but I will evalutate the cost etc. for home staging.

Thanks again, you were very helpful.

I still think if you give something away, marketing will teach you that it has to have a value to the reciever, not to the giver. I can't imagine someone calling you and signing up for your discount. There was another blog I read where the agent gives a free home inspection with an inspector he has worked out a price with. How about a gift certficate at a local boutique that you have worked out a partnership with? They benefit from customers, you get leads.

Be careful waht val-pak says to do, they want to sell coupons.
