Up, Up and A Weigh!
The new ban on weight (obesity) discrimination law in New York City has garnered much attention and is apparently gaining traction on land. By air, New Zealand's international airline, Air New Zealand, plans to weigh all passengers, as they do luggage, before boarding international flights.
Be aware world travelers, Air New Zealand plans to weigh at least 10,000 passengers in 30 days, through the month of July.
There might also be flight safety concerns about the extra weight that some carry and how it adversely affects engine performance or fuel consumption when on those long, transatlantic trips. Might be, could be. Fears of privacy breach and body discrimination have come up with some people.
It's all part of a requirement by the Civil Aviation Authority. They claim the data taken will remain anonymous, it's strictly for weight load and distribution for planes before takeoff. Better to be safe than sorry!
Used to be when taking to the airways, the phrase used was, up, up and away. It has been replaced with up, up and a weigh!
