Remembering D-Day and Another Special "D" Day for Me
Today marks the 79th anniversary of the Allied invasion of German Occupied Western Europe...D-Day. It was to be the “largest air, land, and sea operation before or since that day.” Its codename was Operation Overlord.
Many only know of D-Day from movies like Saving Pvt Ryan or The Longest Day. This is why it is important that our children and those who follow us know more about this well-planned campaign that historians called “the beginning of the end of World War II.”
As of 2022 only 167,284 of the 16 million Americans who served in World War II are still alive.
160,000 Troops
4 Medal of Honor Recipients
5,000+ Ships
13,000 Aircraft
9,000+ Allied Soldiers Killed
or Wounded
This is also a Special “D” day for me as well. Today I wish a Heavenly Happy Birthday to my dad who was in the US Air Corps on D-Day. He was a photographer onboard a plane that flew that day.
As the story goes, he jokingly asked his commanding officer if he could have the day (June 6) off since it was his birthday. To which the officer replied…
Henry, you’re not going to want to miss this day!
Happy Birthday to my dad.
In preparing for battle I have always found that plans are useless, but planning is indispensable.

Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.
Winston Churchill
A people that values its privileges above its principles soon loses both.
