The Villages World War II History Club

I want to paint a cross section of The Villages Social Clubs as many are just for fun but many are so much more!  The Villages has a large percentage of retire military so interest in past wars and military only makes sense for many of our residents.  This is from the club website:

“The WWII Club is an activities club of The Villages, Florida. The Club studies all aspects of World War II. The club was founded by Don Goldstein and Jim Renner in late 2009 and had its first meeting in January 2010. The club has three parts: a movie night, a club meeting and a book club, they meet on different days and times, see below for details. Membership is open and free to all Village residents and their guests. No sign up or registration is required”.

Looking at their website they are a very active club with each part hosting an event almost every month.  Many of us our fathers and maybe our mothers served in the war and could find this club very interesting to learn more!

Oh my, they should read my husband's books - historical fiction about world war II, specifically sea stories. We have a friend who is 98 who was in the war and has some interesting stories to tell which have been the basis of some of the hubbies books.

I would believe that the majority of those that served might attend for the social aspects, but for discussion on what they saw and did would be few. My dad served in the Pacific during WWII and he never talked about what he experienced. I am from the Viet Nam era and my peers are just as mum on what transpired over there.

As the daughter of a WWII veteran, I would find the club interesting. I'm sure I would learn a lot and I appreciate being around veterans and those who appreciate veterans.
