The Power of the Personal Assistant!

As a fellow real estate agent, I know that real estate is a 24/7 job. It isn't a Monday through Friday, 9-5, like most jobs, it is a "when opportunity knocks" or when the phone rings kind of career. Though real estate offers great perks such as being able to set your own schedule, and making large commissions (even though working on commission can be scary at times) it also has its down falls. Recently, I have read many blogs, and have had discussions with fellow agents about the perils of realty and balancing work and life. Many agents I know wish there were more hours in the day, or more days in the week, but ultimately they wish there was someone to help them take the load off.

As a mother of 5 children, I often find balancing work life and personal life challenging, especially during the summer months. Prior to being a realtor, I was a stay at home mom, and spent every waking moment with my children. Now that I am back in the work force, my miss me and complain that I am gone too much.

As an agent you learn very early on that the highest and best use of your time is spent prospecting, showing properties and writing offers, negotiating contracts, and closing contracts. But you also learn that the administrative details of real estate are so time consuming that it doesn't leave much time for family or a personal life.

Recently, I have enlisted the help of a personal assistant, which has dramatically changed my life and my career for the better!! My assistant does the administrative tasks, so that I can spend more valuable time with my clients and most importantly my children and husban. I use her when I need her, and she can manage my databases, update client information, do mailings, etc.

Myself and my children are so thankful that I decided to enlist help and I would highly recommend that if anyone is having trouble with balancing their work/personal life to take the leap of faith and try using an assistant. If it doesn't work out for you then you know not to do it again, and if it does work for you.....GREAT!!!! My assistant owns a company called The Real Assistants, and there motto is “Behind Every Successful Real Estate Agent is a Real Assistant” and it's the truth!!

Has anyone else found that hiring a personal or virtual assistant has changed your career and family life?

(if anyone is interested in hiring an assistant, I would gladly recommend mine, she is a great worker and her fees are reasonable!)

Sounds like you have found the secret of success:  "My assistant does the administrative tasks, so that I can spend more valuable time with my clients and most importantly my children and husban. I use her when I need her, and she can manage my databases, update client information, do mailings, etc."

You have your priorities in order. Much continued success!

Rhonda - I think that you have very quickly worked out that as a successful agent, a Mother and a wife you can't possibly do it all. Delegating tasks to someone else is difficult for many people - I commend you on realizing that it is not necessary for you to be involved in every administrative detail to ensure your continued success. I truly believe that either you have an assistant or you ARE your assistant.

Wishing you continued success!

Asssitants can help one person do the work of four.  I was an assistant for an agent in Lewes and now I am part of a team in Rehoboth.  I know the other side and it is a very smart person who can AND WILL delegate.
