When Lightning Strikes

There is nothing like a nap after a good meal. It's been a while but I certainly remember the bliss of a nap in a hammock in the backyard.

Last night we had a good, loud thunder boomer! I love those loud fast moving storms. The one we had last night had little rain with it but it sure was an active looking sky.

Living across from a famous, old Ball Park there is usually a game on every night and last night was no exception. The officials have enough sense to pause the game and get the players and spectators under cover when lightning is threatening the stadium area.

I found the following valuable information buried deep into the City of Galveston's website.

Are you wondering about that last note: 1/3 lightning injuries are indoors? Two things come to mind for me:

1) Large tree branches hanging over a home

2) Once at my parents lake cabin lighting hit our TV antenna and the lightning toasted our TV and we actually saw a ball of lighting come through the set, hover in the living room and then dissipate. It was really cool but scary at the same time.

Hi Bob- lightning is not to be taken lightly. I've read that it's not good to take a shower either when there's lightning around.

I have heard that too Kathy Streib and it makes perfect sense. That would be a morning jolt that would put you back to sleep... permanently.

I wouldn't want to sleep on the grass since I have heard that chiggers will feast on me if I do so, haha.

I was surprised about the indoor statistic as well but you're probably right about the reason for that. I love thunderstorms but now that I'm in an area that gets very dry in late July/August, I'm also wary of the lightening.

We had a dozy again last night Endre Barath, Jr. and although I think it had little rain associated with it any that we got is very welcome.

My old bones wouldn't handle sleeping on the grass/ground very well these day either Brian England .  A hammock sounds good right now however even though I've only been awake for 3 hours.

I bought a hammock many years ago and have never gotten around to using it, haha.

All of North Dakota has struggled with drought over the last decade Kat Palmiotti but last year was much better for moisture and the overall drought seems to be over. That being said I understand your concern about lightning and the real possibility of starting large fires.
