Situated across both Luzerne and Carbon counties in the Pocono Mountains, Lehigh Gorge State Park follows the Lehigh River from Francis E. Walter Dam all the way to Jim Thorpe: all in all, over 6,000 acres of park land! In addition, the park follows a full 20 miles of the D&L trail, a 165 mile trail running from Wilkes Barre, PA, to Bristol, PA.
With all of this in mind, it is clear that this park is a dream for nature lovers, bicyclists, and water enthusiasts alike. A main attraction of Lehigh Gorge is whitewater rafting on the Lehigh River. Designated a Pennsylvania Scenic River in 1982, the Lehigh offers gorgeous views and challenging rapids for those ready to challenge themselves on a rafting trip. The Lehigh also functions as a peaceful companion to those looking to walk or bicycle along the river on any stretch of the miles of trails. Lehigh Gorge is a year-round park: in the winter, there are trails from White Haven to Penn Haven for snowmobiling. Lehigh Gorge State Park has something to offer in every season, and each season provides beautiful scenic views.
