When I was an exchange student in Finland, I remember realizing it was the 4th of July and no one around me thought of it as a special day or holiday.
I married a British man and soon realized that July 4th meant something very different to him than it did to my fellow Americans.
Many countries celebrate Independence Day on their day of Independence, but only Americans celebrate Independence Day on the 4th of July.
Many people came to America to realize the American Dream of home ownership. And while we've made some major improvements over the years regarding fair housing laws and lending laws, the last few years have seen a decrease in home ownership. More and more homes are being purchased by investors, putting more and more people in rentals.
We can do better. We must do better. We need to make strides in Fair Housing and Affordable Housing.
Enjoy your 4th of July, and on the 5th, let's get to work finding affordable housing solutions. Let's help more people realize the American Dream!
Happy Independence Day! Happy 4th of July!
