Big Pocono State Park, located in Monroe County in Northeast Pennsylvania, is a smaller park that packs a big punch. At 1,306 acres, Big Pocono offers rugged, challenging terrain that overlaps the peaks and valleys of Camelback Mountain. From the paved, 1.4 mile ADA accessible scenic drive, park visitors are provided with views of eastern Pennsylvania, as well as New York, and New Jersey.
This park has plenty to offer for nature enthusiasts, such as hiking, mountain biking, downhill skiing at Camelback Mountain, and horseback riding. There are miles of hiking trails at Big Pocono ranging from easy to moderate and most difficult, with loop trails and in-and-out, allowing visitors to plan accordingly for timing and how strenuous a hike they are hoping for. Bicycles are also allowed on the South Trail and the North Lower Loop, as well as any hard surface roads. For those who are more interested in a relaxing visit, there is plenty of space for picnicking and wildlife watching. The park features beautiful blooms of mountain laurels, blueberry, hemlock, and rhododendron, and a unique forest called scrub oak shrubland. There is much to offer to any and all visitors of Big Pocono State Park.
