We all possess superpowers. The non July challenge is to discover what are superpowers are!!! Sure, we can ask others and this is helpful. However, we must self assess by viewing our personal and professional successes and failures. Others are likely to sugar coat things so that they do not hurt our feelings. Accordingly, we will not have an accurate assessment.  Again, the opinion of others DOES matter. I make a living as a business consultant and another set of eyes and ears is always important in any business!! Afterall, we can never see ourselves or our business in the same view that others will. This is the theory of masterminds.

So my superpower is the ability to see things that others miss; see things in a different light. Also, I have in innate ability to ease people in times of stress/distress and inject humor in tense moments or negotiations. This happened yesterday when two younger attorneys were convinced they were right in a situation that there really was not "right or wrong"  They needed a win for their client....a famous electric car company.  They stood firm on their legally unsupportable position. Soooo, I resorted to my superpower - lethal sense of humor. I made them laugh and made the realize in a humorous manner that there WAS another viewpoint and that is was in everyone's best interests to resolve the manner as I suggested.

They agreed and everyone laughed. This WAS very contentious for a week. I learned this skill (or rather sharpened it) when I was dating a gal in California. She had 11 and 12 year old daughters. The two lasses thoroughly enjoyed daily doses of drama.   Thrived on it. Reveled in it. Tortured their mom and I.

I consistently diffused the drama with humor,  It worked so well.  I have always utilized this weapon in law and business and at that time I discovered in works in life too.

This may not SEEM like a superpower. However the key is to know when and how to use it!!  You have to read the audience. Of course you must also HAVE a sense of humor. The conclusion is that it is a powerful negotiating tool. If you get the other side laughing, you are halfway home!! Even just getting them to smile is a huge step in your favor so if you do not possess the gift of a sense of humor, killing them with kindness can achieve the same goal - it just may take longer!!

So this is my story and my superpower.  This was a fun challenge although they all are!!!!!!!!!!!

Full disclosure...the photo is not me...it is my friend Gabe from Romania. As you can see, he resembles Genghis Kahn. Genghis had a lot of superpowers...or at least don't tell him he didn't LOL LOL

Good morning Paddy. The ability to get people to think like they never have thought by infusing humor is exceptional as long as it does not cross the line and become sarcastic. Enjoy your day.

Hello Paddy - I like the approach you took with your post.  It is my belief that all sorts of things come together in a variety of ways and for an assortment of reasons.

Sometimes the results are excellent, some pretty good, others in the various stages of appeal and yes, there are some which are dismissed.   In the moment, for a lot longer and then they reappear.  Finding any "right" combination can be described as having a superpower.  Of sorts and with a particular strength in certain situations.

Thought-provoking.  And that can be a conversation-starter or a jolt to start the brain cells into action.

Thanks for your entry, Paddy!  I agree, humor can be an amazing superpower especially when it's coupled with smarts!  I like the anecdote of the young lasses that taught you this - amazing what we can learn from kids : )

Hi Paddy- Wonderful entry!!!  I use a lot of humor with friends and when I worked. And yes, the trick is to know your audience as well as timing.
