WASHINGTON DC: When Meredith, of Mere & Co., and design guru of popular Dogwood Interiors, embarked on a quest to find a perfect work of art for the firm's newest renovation project in Cathedral Heights, her search ended at the door of noted Baltimore, MD artist BB LaMartina.
The Challenge: Create a work of art inspired by the green space surrounding the home and its location, including the perfect shade of blue-gray Meredith chose for the home's kitchen cabinetry.
The Result: "Constant Joy."
LaMartina's work has been shown throughout the Baltimore-Washington area, is in private collections worldwide, and has been published in many national magazines, including Architectural Digest and Home & Garden. An abstract impressionist, BB creates pieces filled with color and varied elements of texture. Visually interesting, with depth of composition creating movement and excitement. LaMartina always infuses a sense of wonder into her work. "Once installed," she says, "the piece will make the room." We heartily agree!
For "Constant Joy," LaMartina took cues from nature, drawing from the patio garden at 3717 Fulton Street, nearby Glover Archibold Park, which boasts 183+ acres of woods, streams and trails, other neighborhood parks and the nearby Naval Observatory;
“The definition of ‘observatory,’ provides for the study of natural phenomenon. To me, few things are as beautiful as a field of flowers, a natural phenomenon. My inspiration was to provide a view where one might constantly gaze and enjoy the peace and beauty,” she said.
LaMartina used touches of the blue-gray shade of the cabinetry throughout the flower grouping in the piece.
"Constant Joy" is a 30x60 work of acrylic, oil and ink, applied over a highly-textured potion. It is available for purchase at $1,900.00.
You can see it in the residence at 3717 Fulton Street NW, Washington DC 20007, just listed by DOMO of Compass.
