Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion Gets Listed (Sort Of)

For Dallas parents who have yet to experience the wonders of Disneyland or Disney World, despite the expense and the line waits, there’s a good chance you will come to agree with the majority takeaway: the memories are worth it. Even so, the corporate powers-that-be at the Walt Disney Co. have never relied on word of mouth to keep the crowds coming—and now they have come up with an amusing promotion that includes a real estate twist.

As World Real Estate News wrote last week, this attention-getting gambit sounds like it came “from the leave-no-stone-unturned school of marketing.” Disney decided the moment had arrived to add their landmark Haunted Mansion to real estate site Zillow’s national listings. For veterans of the eternally popular ride, the joke is a fun one.

The “property” is said to be located “only minutes from downtown New Orleans…on a secluded bayou road.” It has been “miraculously preserved in its original condition” (dating back to the late 19th century). The feature listings highlight a library (“inspires unforgettable nightmares”), a Great Hall (“ideal for entertaining invited and uninvited guests”), and a ballroom (“where ghostly souls celebrate and imprison”).

Elsewhere in the listing, the descriptive text necessarily amounts to an extended disclaimer—for instance, “It is important to disclose that this property is indeed haunted.” Since “its inhabitants inflict terror and eternal entrapment to all who enter,” the imaginary property’s creators won’t expect to receive many offers, even though the supply of haunted houses on Zillow is extremely limited. Real estate professionals would certainly have counseled the Disney execs to have launched the listing’s debut closer to Halloween—but there is method to their timing: a new “Haunted Mansion” movie premiers on Friday, July 28!

The Dallas listings that are created to highlight unique, standout features are more likely to prompt interest than those with cookie-cutter language. Call any time if you are thinking of selling this year—among all our other services you can count on, your Dallas listing will be original, accurate, and eye-catching!
