One Story Living, Dallas / Fort Worth Suburb Style:

Dallas / Fort Worth is made up of more than 200 incorporated towns and cities and over 7.5 million residents strong. You drive from one location to the next without even realizing you’ve crossed two, or three city boundaries. This is suburban Texas.

So when people relocating to the area say they’re looking for a “ranch style” house, it can be a surprise to find that they’re envisioning a long front porch with views of rolling hills and roaming cattle.

While that indeed could describe a ranch house somewhere in Texas, “ranch style” homes in the DFW Metroplex most often means a single story, one level home.

Want to take a peek at the single story homes for sale in Dallas / Fort Worth? Just don't be surprised if you don't see any longhorn cattle in the front yard.

Cindy, I would freak out if I saw a longhorn in the front yard. We call our one-story homes ranches also.

Joan, I think most of us call them "single story" or "one story" , that's why we're always asking for clarification when folks relo from Denver. Many not from the area asking for a "ranch" really are thinking they're going to find acreage and horses, because, after all, it's Texas. I bet you get similar being in Colorado.

we call them ramblers here - although you have to be prepared for someone asking for a ranch style home if they are from another area. Is this house a ranch style though? It looks like it has a second story with that window or is it a great room that I see?
