Georgetown County, South Carolina, is temporarily stopping the use of Mosquito Magician, a natural mosquito spray made with essential oils. The county was using the spray as part of its mosquito control program, but it was recently notified by the Clemson Pesticide Regulatory Division that the spray is not approved for use in ULV spraying. ULV spraying is a method of spraying pesticides that uses a very fine mist, which is more effective at controlling mosquitoes than traditional methods.

The county is currently working with Mosquito Magician to get the spray approved for ULV spraying. In the meantime, the county will be using traditional pesticides to control mosquitoes.

Here are some of the reasons why Georgetown County is stopping the use of Mosquito Magician:

  • The spray is not approved for use in ULV spraying.
  • The spray has not been shown to be as effective as traditional pesticides at controlling mosquitoes.
  • The spray is more expensive than traditional pesticides.

The county is hoping that Mosquito Magician will be approved for ULV spraying in the near future. If that happens, the county may resume using the spray as part of its mosquito control program.

In the meantime, the county is encouraging residents to use other methods to protect themselves from mosquitoes, such as wearing long sleeves and pants, using insect repellent, and draining standing water around their homes.
