Active Rain header graphics for Outside Blogs

garaughty, blog graphics

Now that some of the dust has settled from the introduction of Active Rain's new outside blogs, in the next few days I'll be posting the first in a series of graphic images I'm designing for the AR outside blog headers.

The images will be free to use on your AR outside blog and since the images are mine, you won't have to be concerned about copyright issues. I'm giving them to the AR commuinty. No fine print.

While I'm putting the finishing touches on the first set of images, take a look at some updated info from Brad Andersohn and Jeremy Blanton who put together a couple of excellent tutorials about using a domain name with your outside blog.

If you missed it, in my post from a few days ago...

A new Active Rain member feature... Susie Blackmon's "Butterfly Banquet"

I introduced an idea that will feature photos from Active Rainers on the wallpaper/calendars I usually post in my blog at the beginning of each month. I wasn't sure if or how people would react but judging by the positive comments, it looks like I'll be doing more of these in the future.

To answer some of the questions I received about it...

- it's open to anyone and everyone here on Active Rain

- no it's not a contest

- subject matter... pretty much anything interesting, unique, beautiful or funny... surprise me!

- no cost, I'm just doing this to give exposure to some of the talented people we have here on AR

- the wallpapers can be seen & downloaded at http://garaughty.com/ActiveRainWallpaper.html

 If you're interested in participating...

- send 1 photo or a link to the photo you'd like to submit to marti@garaughty.com

- mark Active Rain wallpaper in the subject line of the email

- be patient, I'm doing this for fun not to start another career, I'll post new wallpapers when I have time

There are 3 AR wallpapers posted, more will be available soon. You can download the wallpapers here

I'd like to thank Susie Blackmon for being the first contributor with her beautiful Butterfly Banquet photo and another BIG thank you to Margaret Rome for letting me turn her upcoming book into a July wallpaper as well.

The Lovely Wife

How often do you see blogs and posts sit there with next to zero comments and very few readers? Well it doesn't just happen here on AR, it happens all over the net. Why? Usually because the blog's topic or content doesn't engage the reader.

If we don't give people a reason to interact with us, talk back to us, play with us, make us think, they won't! And they probably won't come back to our blog week after week like we hope they will.

TLW is the master mistress of getting people to think and react. She has a large following for a reason. If you need another example of what she does so well, check out...

You Have Six Words...Give Me Your Life...ROAR!

Take a look at how many and how quickly people reacted to her post, a simple experiment that got people to respond. TLW understands that it's not about her, it's about them(us) and in turn, it is about her. Think about it!

Hi Marti, How wonderful of you to allow others to partake of your talents. I logged on 40 minutes ago to read and post my comments and now 45 minutes have passed and I am still her. Thank You so much for finding the Core Competencies worthy of highlighting. You bring so much here and it make me comfortable on you posts just wandering around and discovering. Now , If I can learn this I will deliver to ny readers so much more. And I am excited about that.

I will admit Mari, that after the launch of Localism, I realize that I have a lot of work to do. I will leave it there. Thanks you again for my special look. It pleases me when I go there.

William... the feeling is mutual, we're all adding to the Rain in our own way, your insightful posts are an excellent example. It was fun & easy to work with you, thx again and I'm glad you liked the result. Great tag line you have!

I'm just sitting back and watching how the new Localism will shake out. With any BIG change there will be both happy and unhappy campers, time will tell. ;-)

Hi Marty, I know . I discovered some things today that blew me away and actually in a way that greatly disappointed me but I would never talk of them on line. Overall I really like what they have attempted to do but they could use you help on the header, lol. Whew, haven't seen black and white since ,well the b/w flicks . No, I didn't actually live in that time, lol. But hey today is celebration day and they all worked so hard to get it up and yes there is a lot of work ahead of them.

Instead of blogging today and getting my work done , (Trying very hard to catch up after losing so much momentum a few months back) I spend that day with the plumber ( 2nd day in a row) and on the phone with my home warranty company and their advisers (?) getting some issues resolved.

I was half way through writing that post and tired of it before i even finished-now I don't know if consumers will ever get the benefit of all that learned over two days,:-)

I wish I could sit back and observe but my observations seem not to be as good as they once were, seeing how I missed something really vital about how Localism actually works. Another riveting post I may not write.

So the day has worn me out and worn me down. Excited for AR that Localism is up, Glad I got a number of plumbing issues resolved, disappointed in myself for internalizing some things that I observed and don't want to be the policeman for, overall missed commenting but to just a couple people and others will be disappointed I didn't stop by and share something.

Why am I venting here? Marti you draw the best out me somehow, lol. While I have your ear, the list of marketing post is amazing. Great job and thanks for giving the peers a chance to share our excitement in what you do. Why not offer fixing Localism, lol Best not suggest that Marti, someone in the front office must think it looks good,LMAO. They would be disappointed.

I need to cut down on the size of my comments, I think. I could get more done that way

William... vent away, it's an open forum and a 2 way conversation. Actually before checking my comments this morning I saw Jon's answers to all the Localism concerns. I'm sure it will all work out soon enough. Later my friend...

I decided to use the green header.  The only thing I don't like about the big header format is that you have to shorten your blog's title.  I look forward to reading your next blog post.

DeAnna... if you mean the text title above the header for now that is built into the AR blog platform, it might be adjustable in the future.
