Swiss glaciers recorded worst melt in history - 843 REALTOR

Swiss glaciers have recorded their worst melt in history, and this is leading to the recovery of bodies that have been buried in the ice for centuries. In June 2023, hikers on the Morteratsch Glacier in the Swiss Alps discovered the remains of a man who had been missing for over 70 years. The man, who has not been identified, was wearing clothing from the early 1950s and had a backpack with him that contained food and other personal belongings.

This is not the first time that bodies have been found on Swiss glaciers as a result of the recent melt. In 2019, the remains of a woman who had been missing for over 50 years were found on the Aletsch Glacier. And in 2021, the body of a man who had been missing for over 30 years was found on the Glacier du Tacul.

The melting of Swiss glaciers is a reminder of the impact of climate change. As the glaciers melt, they are exposing remains that have been buried for centuries. This is a sobering reminder of the human cost of climate change.

The recovery of bodies from Swiss glaciers is also raising ethical questions. Some people believe that the bodies should be left in peace, while others believe that they should be properly identified and returned to their families. There is no easy answer to this question, and it is one that will likely be debated for years to come.

In the meantime, the melting of Swiss glaciers is a reminder of the urgency of climate action. We need to take steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate the effects of climate change, or we will continue to see more bodies being recovered from Swiss glaciers.

Good Morning John Winzenried

Very interesting blog post. It would seem that the glacier(s) have retracted back to a time when they were smaller since bodies have been recovered. I was just at the Mendenhall Glaicer in Juneau

The only positive is that remains can finally be buried so family can mourn properly.
