Questions for Rainmakers about Re-blogging - need help!

By

Dear fellow Rainers!

EDIT: Clarifying that I am asking about refreshing/updating one of MY older posts - NOT re-blogging another person's post.

It's been about 8 years since I've been active on this platform and I need your help to get back in the habit!

I started blogging here in 2009. In 2010, I tripled my production as a direct result of my blogging and social media efforts. By 2015, I was busier than I ever imagined I could be.

I rested on my laurels and could slap myself. A fellow Rainer recently helped me revise my web site, and now I'm trying to get back in the blogging groove.

I ran across a blog post today that was extremely well written and great evergreen content. I've been out of it for so long, I need to know how to modify that content to update, refresh and alert Google. Do I keep the same URL? Change some content?

Are there articles or tutorials you can refer me to? I want to get this right from the get go.  Thanks in advance!

Adding a photo of me, for those that may remember me!

Hello Lori - welcome back.  ActiveRain does not take attendance - as far as I know (maybe that's another hidden factor of AI).

If I am interpreting your question correctly, I think it doesn't apply to reblogging in the AR sense of the term.   However, you can choose a new title and update your thoughts from that post you mention and give it a 2023 perspective with a new submission that will show up on the blog roll.

Good luck as you return to the puddle.  You will likely remember some of the splashing about.

The puddle and splashing - witty!

No - not talking about re-blogging another person's post. Would like to dredge up some older quality posts and refreshen them for Google. I'm sure Bob Stewart has a class about that - just need to find it! Thanks for helping out!

Hi Lori and welcome back!! I’m not sure if you mean reblogging another member’s post or updating an older one of yours.

If it’s someone else’s then you cannot modify it. You can write an introduction with your thoughts.

If you want to refresh /update an older one, then you can modify , update, redo it and give it a new title.

I often do that. Overtime our opinions and thoughts change!

Thank you Kathy!  So if you refresh/update an older post, do you keep the original URL? Curious as to Google's preference.

Appreciate your help and nice to see you again!

Lori Cain No...you write a new post in a new AR editor with a new/similar title. You can add updated photos or links as well. Basically, you're writing a new post but using the older posts of yours for ideas, etc.

Lori, welcome back, and hope you stay a while.   You can copy a past post, paste it into a new "write post" and make the changes you need to.   You have to have a new name, which will give it a new url.

Thank you Joan. That's the info I need. I wish I could figure out how to edit my post to clarify what I mean about re-blogging. Time to catch up and get familiar with all this again!

Since its inception, AR has always been a Fan of Reblogging . It is considered a compliment to the Original Author and the Reblog increases Readership for the Content. I tell Agents who have writers block that they are in luck , because AR has thousands of Blog Posts that you can share with YOUR Readership

Thank you Michael - it does help when you have writer's block!

Hi Lori -  I do remember you!  Welcome back!!

Personally I would simply copy and past the old blog post into a new one and change whatever you want to update.  I do suggest using a feature image (which is located up on top) as that is a more updated look now and helps the post stand out more.

If it's one of your posts, then take it down as a draft and do what you need to do to get it refreshed.

If you want to use most of it, then take what you need and post as a new blog.

Looking at your question again - you could retype the post with updates in it and title it

UPDATED ( then original posts name ).   OR

Original Post Name #2
