Have You Considered Shooting Your Shadow?

By
Home Stager with Sharon Tara Transformations

Today I read a post written by Kathy Streib  celebrating photography and learned that today is World Photography Day.

I have enjoyed the hobby of photography for as long as I can remember.

I took a photography course in college (back in the olden days of the 70's) but I've never been professionally trained and I don't know anything about most of the settings on my camera. I am a creative person, however, and I have a pretty good eye for placement and arrangement when taking photos.

One of my fun photo techniques is shooting shadows.

Rick and I riding our Harley

Me in between my daughter and my mom

Rick and I taking a walk

Rick and I with two of our grandchildren

The beach is always a great place to shoot shadows

Sometimes...beauty can be found somewhere between a picture and a shadow.

Father of the bride and shoveling the snow.

" The eye is always caught by light, but shadows have more to say. "

Shout out to Brian England who in the comment section of his post inspired me to write this post and share my photos.

Sharon - I did a doubletake after first reading your title line.  But, I loved the photos with all the shadows.

Myrl Jeffcoat  I'm glad you enjoyed them. Maybe it will inspire you the next time you are out on a sunny day to shoot your shadow.

Yes indeed shadows do have more to say.

Hello Sharon - shout- outs and shadows are important.  In photography and so many aspects of life.  You excel in showing us the power of both in this post.

Good morning, Sharon... to answer your question, no, I've never considered shooting my shadow. I don't take pictures in general and wouldn't have a clue how to shoot a shadow. When it comes to photography, I always struggle with deciding what I hate more... being front of a camera or behind a camera! All that being said, loved your shadow photos.

Nina Hollander, Broker  First of all...open the camera on your phone, aim it at your (or somebody else's) shadow and shoot. It is that simple. LOL

Second...a shadow shot is actually perfect for someone who doesn't like being photographed.   Choose your angle and shoot...no details to be self conscious about.

I'm glad you enjoyed my pics and I really hope you are inspired to give it a try sometime.

Sharon Tara LOL Sharon! I usually forget I even have a camera in my phone! Taking pictures just doesn't enter my mind.

Shadow photography is really cool.  I will have to look through my camera roll and see if I have any.  If I don't, perhaps I will try some in the coming weeks, haha.

Brian England  YES give it a try. Consider it a special assignment...I look forward to seeing what you come up with. (a tennis shadow could be really cool!)

Hi Sharon,
I've noticed shadows, too, but have never really thought of photographing them. It's a fun idea, though, I do love how certain shadows make me look taller and skinnier than I am. 😁

Carol Williams  Well now you have been given the idea and maybe you will be inspired to try it. I hope so.

Yes, the shadows do make for very long legs sometimes. As for "thin"... just depends on the angle.

Pretty neat. I am back in N.Y. til the 31st.  Wonderful meeting you and wondering if you are still camping or home.

Sharon Lee  Wonderful meeting you and having lunch with you! Wondering if you have had any more lobster since we met???

We got home on the 16th. I guess we will just miss each other in NY. We head back on 9/1.

Wishing you safe travels!

I love the idea.  Have you ever seen the t-shirt featuring a rabbit doing shadow art of a human hand that is creating a rabbit shadow.  I was very close to buying that t-shirt (I still might).

Ray Henson  I had not seen that t-shirt, but a quick google search and I found it. Found two actually. Love them!

I did have but the best and tastiest I had was with you. I had a lobster roll with mayo and twin lobster tails.  The tails were chewy and tasteless. The one with mayo was ok but still not as good as the one I had with you.

I will leave Clayton N.Y on the 31st and stay the night in Gasport N.Y. on that night before leaving the state.

I hope you enjoy the rest of your travels. I was in Shelburne New Hampshire for a couple nights. Lots of rain in Vermont.

Sharon Lee  We had quite a bit of rain during our stay in NY. It felt more like fall than it did summer. I'm quite fine with that though. I really don't like the heat.

Sorry you didn't have better luck with the lobster. But I am happy that you enjoyed our lobster lunch. I enjoyed it too. I just suggested to Rick that we go sometime soon so I can have it again!

Yum! Great idea. It was definitely a highlight of my trip getting to meet you.  Maybe in a couple years I will make it to New Hampshire again and check out Connecticut on this trip.

I am going to have to start shooting shadows again. You make such a strong case for this art form. Be careful on that Harley. 😎

Paul S. Henderson, REALTOR®, CRS  Thanks for the warning, but we no longer have the bike. We enjoyed the time we had with it, but sold it several years ago.

My daughter-in-law lost her brother when he and his wife were riding their bike...no fault of his. The negligent driver of the car that hit them was at fault. Tragic loss. It really shook me up and I just didn't want to ride again after that.
