Keeping Cool in Minot

Swimming pools in Minot North Dakota are hard to find.

The men and women stationed at ther Minot Air Force Base are lucky to have their own pool facility.

Our summers are just to short to pay for the expense of installation and maintenance of a private pool. Every year I see someone purchase an above ground pool but I don't believe I've ever seen the same pool the following year. In fact, more often then not by late summer said pool in ruins before fall.

The City of Minot has a wonderful pool complete with a water slide and splash pad.

Obviously the City pool is an outdoor pool and even though it it heated it is no match for our winters. The City pool is open from Memorial Day through Labor Day. The day after Labor Day the dog is open to pet owners who have dogs.

As far as I know the only pool open during the winter is the pool at the YMCA. (aside from hotel/motel pools).

When I was a kid we used to go to community pools for the same reasons you described, this was in Hungary, Austria and on the East Coast in Connecticut, so your post makes 100% sense, Endre

We grew up without a pool and when it was really hot, we found our way to a lake or a public pool at one of the town parks.

I believe I may be at our swim club/pool this coming week. They are forecasting if not triple digit temps, VERY close to triple digit temps. Knowing this area, the heat index will have us at a heat index of 100+º.

Oh yeah! I forgot to comment about that pool picture you posted. That slide looks amazing! I am not a big slider, but I definitely believe I need to try out that slide! I hope you've been able to enjoy it this summer.

Good morning Bob. I grew up spending my summers on the Fox River outside Chicago. No pool. When I moved to Florida always had a pool. Now back in Chicago no interest. And if I lived where you do, a community pool would have to do for your short season. So, get your pool time in before Labor Day. Enjoy your day.

Pools are very uncommon here as well - in fact, now that I think about it, I don't remember seeing any homes with pools.

Good morning, Bob. Can't say I've ever been to a community pool anywhere. I haven't even owned a swimsuit in over 35 years!

Thank you Endre Barath, Jr. . The Minot City pool is just a couple of blocks from our home so the kids always had season passes. To the best of my recollection I think I've been there twice in 20 years. Like you I also went to the City pool and that is where I also had swimming lessons (1st thing in the morning with very cold water).

Exact same story here Ed (Edward) Silva, 203-206-0754 until my folks purchased a lake place when I was somewhere around 10 years old.

It really is a cool slide J.R. Schloemer, CRS . They rebuilt the slide last year and they are constantly upgrading the pool and surrounding accessories.

BTW I used to live for those 100 degree days but not so much anymore.

Wayne Martin when I grew up in Moorhead MN there was only one pool available plus one pool in sister city Fargo ND. Both were always very crowded. Back in Fargo/Moorhead as well as here in Minot ND you would have to be crazy (or very drunk) to swim in the muddy Red River or here in the Mouse River.

The upkeep is just far to great no matter how much money you have for the short summer season we have Kat Palmiotti . You would think that with all the oil money the young men have here there would have been a pool boom BUT the young men here would rather buy $100,000 pick up trucks instead.

Nina Hollander, Broker , No swim suit! That's okay, I imagine us as more of a hot tub couple anyway. 😍

Bob "RealMan" Timm hi Bob... one reason I have no swimsuit anymore is because I am not fond of being in water. Must come from my previous life as a cat.

Thanks for a chuckle Nina Hollander, Broker as I can only imagine a cat's opinion of being in a hot tub.

It is Brian England and the picture doesn't do it justice as it hardly shows all the fun at the splash pad and mini water slide for small children. I'd also say we have some of the prettiest life guards in the nation.

Good morning Bob,

I grew up in upstate NY so not many pools as the season just wasn't long enough. I've been in Texas now since the early 80's and if there is ever a place that makes sense to own and operate a pool it here! I love having a pool and so glad we made the investment.

If I lived down South I'd insist on a pool as well Dorie Dillard Austin TX and I can tell you I'd be spending a lot of time in it as well.
