I'm a huge Joni Mitchell fan, and was today-years-old when I discovered that one of my personal favourite Joni Mitchell tunes, 'Twisted', (from her 1974 album titled Court and Spark) was a cover of a song written and performed by Annie Ross in 1952, accompanied by Count Basie on the piano (yes, that Count Basie).
I always felt that Twisted was an interesting style-departure for Joni, who sang primarily folk-country-ish, and this was more jazzy, but never really considered that it might not be her own composition.
Here is a video of Annie Ross performing Twisted back in 1952. I'm sure you'll recognize it straight away. And if the song is new to you, well.... "You're welcome!". Enjoy.
In case you haven't heard Joni's version, you can listen to it here.
