Pacific Northwest Fire Season Brings North Idaho Smoke

Real Estate Broker/Owner with Sandpoint Realty LLC DB36113

Along with the high temperatures North Idaho and surrounding areas are experiencing the usual summer fires.  While most fires are not right at our doorstep in North Idaho the smoke finds its way to our North Idaho Panhandle

Sandpoint Idaho Smoke

While this pic may not look too bad with smoke, it is mid afternoon and less than 1/2 mile to the train trestles just on the right.  The road ahead seems to disappear and the hills just beyond the tree tops are not even visible.

Sandpoint Idaho Smoke

Only a few miles north, and only a few minutes beyond the 1st picture we have now entered Naples Idaho area where the Cabinet and Selkirk Mountain ranges converge within about 12 miles or so of each other.  You can see how much the narrow valley condenses the smoke along with depending on the smoke coming from the north or south.

Thus far we have been fortunate in firefighters getting a quick handle on this years fires and preventing the type of damage seen on Maui just recently.  Hopefully this will continue to be the case thru this year's fire season in the Pacific Northwest

Mark Don McInnes, Sandpoint-Idaho we got to experience here in CT the effects of the smoke from the Canadian wildfires earlier this year.  It was not pleasant and very unhealthy.  I hope these fires are under control and over for you very soon.

There is nothing worse than heavy smoke in the air.  I hope you get relief before long.

Mark, We directly felt the impact of smoke from the Canadian wildfires on Long Island, which brought about unpleasant air quality. I hope your area gains control over the situation!

One thing I wasn't expecting when I moved to NW Montana was the smoke issue. We have had a few days in the last few weeks that were smoky. It looks like today might be a bit better, so that's good!

I can tell from the pics that there is too much smoke in the air, which is not good at all.

Oh wow, Mark... that doesn't look good at all. Hopefully, your fire fighters will continue to stave off fires that will do serious damage.

Good morning Mark,

Heavy smoke in the air is not fun to endure. Your pictures show hoe much you are experienced. Hopefully the firefighters can continue to quickly fight fires off, they are doing a great job.

Hi Mark Don McInnes, Sandpoint-Idaho - I hope that this goes away soon for you.

When I moved to Sedona, I loved the crystal clear air we had.  We moved from SoCal and there was a lot of fog or smog and sometimes fire issues creating smoke.  I was glad to get away from it.

Well, we don't see this issue a lot but it really is annoying when we get smoke from the fires.  One time we had the windows open and when we woke up our entire house was full of smoke from a fire near Flagstaff. The smoke found its way down Oak Creek Canyon into Sedona at night.  YIKES!

Thanks for sharing your photographs. Limit you time outdoors during the smoky days.

We've had many bad air days from the smoke from the fires in Canada.

Mark, I remember being in Idaho this time last year, and the fires were crazy.  Your photo was like what I drove through to the border in British Columbia.    Stay safe, and hope your air clears soon!

Sorry to hear about the fires, Mark. Hopefully they will get them under control, and out, before too much damage. That's some pretty serious smoke in your area!
