In the earliest days of my 40 year career as a Realtor, my children were young and still at home. During that time, they were active in competitive swimming. Originally, they swam on a local recreation team, then moved onward to the Sacramento YMCA. Ultimately they all swam at the Arden Hills Swim Club, ran by one-time, legendary Olympic Swim Coach, Sherm Chavoor.
I found from my children’s participation on the swim team, there was a beneficial side effect to building my business. That benefit came, not only from the accumulated relationships with other local swim parents. It came from more distant relationships forged during swim meets throughout California, and Nevada.
In those years, I created calendars of all the AAU swim meets scheduled for the year. These were provided to swim parents throughout the Far Western States swim community. I also created newsletters which had local news, real estate market reports and information. Those were distributed to parents in the Greater Sacramento region. If you are wondering why I also marketed to those who didn’t reside in my community, the answer is REFERALS.
The swim community provided me with an opportunity to forge bonds and friendships far and wide.
Later on, I expanded upon the idea of marketing beyond just swim parents, and, I often attended local Little League baseball games, soccer matches, and other sporting events!
I wasn’t above regularly walking my “farm area,” to deliver my marketing materials. However, I learned that I covered more ground, and distributed to more people quickly, when they were all seated close together, in the stands at swim meets and games.
Real estate marketing can be quite an expense, and the cost of distribution can be a large part of that expense. However, I found there are ways to deliver quality materials into the hands of prospective clients, and significantly contain distribution cost.
In this series (which this is #2 of), I am continuing to bring ideas, I have successfully used.
