Happy Rosh Hashanah to my Jewish friends, clients, and colleagues from Nina Hollander with Coldwell Banker Realty! As the Jewish New Year ushers in the year 5784 at sundown today and a season of reflection and renewal, I'm wishing all who celebrate this holiday good health, happiness, prosperity, peace and blessings throughout the coming year and beyond.

As you begin the season of the High Holy Days, I hope your homes will be lit with joy; that you will enjoy sweet moments blossoming into sweet memories in the years to come; and that you discover a new sense of possibility, a new belief in the gifts you have to share, and a renewed commitment to your faith and your dreams.

Hello Nina - when it comes to a lot of things, I am "lost".  Religion is certainly one despite years of study outside school attendance.  I digress. . .   

Recently, I read a story of a woman who helps rabbis craft their messages for the high holidays.  Talk about finding your "calling".  Her route to this role may have been both serendipitous and circuitous.

Michael Jacobs hi Michael... I attended church schools from first grade through 12th grade. Studies of comparative religions was something that was emphasized. And then again, I come from a very eclectic family... I have relatives who are Lutheran, Roman Catholic, Russian Orthodox, Jewish. So I'm very aware of all the various holidays. And having lived in the Muslim world, I'm quite aware of the ebb and flow of their holidays, as well.

I can't say I studied Judaism more than any other religion when I was in high school, but I did have a Jewish stepmother, three Jewish roommates freshman year in college (I called myself their gentile token), etc. And when you grow up in NY City I've always said you're a little bit Jewish even if you're not Jewish.
