Atlanta, Buckhead, Midtown and many more sections of the City of Atlanta offer surprising glimpses of small town enterprises. Who would think that so many Community Gardens exist inside the urban area!

Previous posts titled Community Gardens around Town -1 and Community Gardens around Town - 2 offered views of larger organizations. Here, located where the top "x" is on the map, take a look at a different kind of Community Garden, the West End Community Urban Garden offering us a delightful contrast. From one woman's dream came reality. Here's a YouTube video about the Build!

Started by a woman with a mission, Haylene Green, known as the "Garden Queen", shares her interest in Gardening with focus on organic soil and utilizing holistic techniques to yield larger-than-life produce. She wants to equip families and growers with knowledge concerning food security and safety, and sustaining the environment for years to come. Please listen to Ms. Green explain about herself as a Farmer in the Garden in another You Tube video.

After listening to Ms. Green, seeing photos of her success in the West End make her accomplishments even more exciting!

A new initiative is her idea to bring Seniors and Youth together in the Garden. In addition to bridging the gap between age groups, the connection is crucial to "incite sustainable positive social change in our community. 25 youths and 25 seniors will participate in interactive classes concerning food equity, farm literacy, agri-tourism, nutrition, food preparation, container gardening and recycling."
