Motivational Monday…Focus On YOU and What You Can Do
The game many were watching this weekend was an excellent example of how trash-talking only highlights your own weaknesses.
The week leading up to the game, the opposing coach (Coach N) made a negative comment about the other coach's (Coach P) attire.
It wasn’t football-related or necessary. The game ended up going into double overtime. The winner? Coach P and his team.
Focusing on putting your competitor down never works in the long run. You may have a moment of feeling good about yourself but what it does is show others that YOU are the one lacking something…usually character or confidence.
And if you are building a team or leading a company, this attitude trickles down all levels.
Coach N’s team had 17 penalties which cost them 182 yards. Some of those penalties were for personal fouls.
So how did Coach P. respond? He said he was minding his own business and offered this biblical verse…
Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. Matthews 12:34 *meaning?
What does this have to do with anything?
Whether in business, politics, or your personal life…if you have to put someone else down to feel good about what you’re doing or yourself, you’ve already lost the battle.
Focus on what you do and will do to help someone. Show them what you offer rather than what your competitor lacks.
If you feel that you can’t win without putting your competitor down…look in your mirror to find your real problem.
Insecure people put others down to
raise themselves up.
