First day in Lisbon has been a bit of a blur, but got some sightseeing done. Flew into Newark, then into Lisbon, so about 10 hours of flight time, and probably one hour of sleep. I USED to be able to sleep on a plane.....
Right now - 4:06 pm it is 73 degrees and 64% humidity. There were some clouds and thought there could be some rain, but tomorrow the forecast says 94% rain most of the day.
I got an Explore Lisbon ticket, so I could ride the bus all over the city. After the drive here (traffic is horrendous), I wanted to leave the car in the garage. Not sure what the brand of the car is, but it is a stick shift - and don't laugh, but could not figure out for quite a while how to get it into reverse. (remember....no sleep)
Went down to the wharf, and saw a cruise ship, a beautiful bridge, and lots of cool things in downtown Lisbon. There are many "streets" that are not used by cars, just walkways, and there are many vendors and street performers.
Have to say --- have heard little English spoken. Had lunch next to some women from Mozambique, and they were celebrating their friend's birthday. The other side of me, the couple was from New Zealand. Both spoke English with accents.
Most buildings look very old, Juliet balconies, and laundry can be seen on many of them. Most buildings look like they could use some maintenance. Here is a photo of downtown housing.
There are brick sidewalks everywhere, and some aren't exactly level, so you have to be careful walking. Saw this in a square downtown, and this tile WAS level, but sure didn't look like it.
It is pretty early still, but it sure sounds like bedtime!
