Thoughts on Transitions

As Autumn Becomes Real

And Some Other Stuff. . .

As this relatively new season continues, I am thinking of transitions even as SoCal doesn't participate as much or in the same way as other parts of the country. With the passage of time, it's interesting to me as I see many sorts things move along too. It is rather incredible to think how much comes together despite threats of unraveling. Some of this stuff (so to speak) seems to occur quickly, even abruptly.  Other life events seem to make subtler appearances. Its in this combination, I gain additional insight and perspective.

Admittedly, I talk to myself. One familiar refrain is to accept (or reject) - adapt and adjust. Even with the inevitablity of things beyond time there's a lot of other stuff that can cause confusion, maybe disruption.

Maybe this is a reminder (to myself, especially) to let go of some of the stuff that can clutter my outlook. I remain a work-in-progress. Yes, I repeat these words often. For me, it's something worth remembering. . .

Hi Michael, Thanks goodness for transitions. It's an opportunity to grow, improve and soar. And as you mentioned, we're all a work in progress.

Carla Freund - transitions can be good in the moment and for a lot longer too.  The "work" continues. . .

The topic of "transitions," is timely and often different to different people or objects or seasons in life. Michael Jacobs - What resonated with me was how you wrote this piece, especially gaining "additional insights and perspective." Yes! That is a good combination.

I read. Pondered. Read again... Pondered further. My thoughts? The rivers of living water flows within you.

Pondering is a second nature to me. Your pondering is good. I ponder in silence. Even in silence we are effective communicators.

Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP - this week I finished reading Life is in the Transitions by Bruce Feiler.  I originally started it in September before the arrival of Autumn.   - put it down and then picked it up again.  Life and transitions are like that.  Non-linear in some ways but following a certain path as well.  The book and life are fascinating.

Michael Jacobs - I am interested in reading Life is in Trsansitions for many reasons. The older I get the more I realize, life really is an adventure, whether we hike to climb mountains, or stay at home. We often step into uncharted territories with head scratching moments. Decisions! Decisions! Decisions!

I guess when you think about it, it is no wonder why there really isn't much difference in how we thought about things when we were a kid and how we began to think more differently or not over time. Sometimes I feel like the little kid who got into a small canoe in search of a better life, far away from home, only to discover, I coudn't wait to get back home. Like famous explorers we are drawn to discovery by curiousity. We go with gusto and/or fear to places of the unknown. Some are thrust upon us; others we choose. Brave or not these are life experiences and as you summed it all up, "The book and life are fascinating." I hope to get the book and start reading it soon.

Thank you. I am wishing you a very Happy Thanksgiving full of enlightenment and peace of heart.

Hi Michael:

I had to chuckle at your title, having just transitioned, in a matter of hours, from Kaua'i to Carlsbad yesterday early morning. And still adjusting a bit to the time differences.

As far as being a work in progress, that's a definite yes for me (as it is for everyone). Life is a journey of transitions - some more disruptive than others - and adaptation. But we have choices, should we decide to make them.

Jeff

I'm so glad Kathy Streib featured your post Michael Jacobs - I missed this one.
I enjoyed it like warm tea that slowly warms the body on a cold evening in Fall.
I talk to myself too, in my garden, walking Whiskey and at my desk. I'm convinced it makes us better writers, better negotiators and possibly a little wittier. Or we're just nuts and should be glad people don't lock us up. 😂 But, great post and thanks for being a fellow self-talker that puts out great content!

Michael, we are still seeing a few leaves on the trees, but with 8-10" of snow from yesterday and today, just a few left.

Joan Cox - "let it snow, let it snow" may be followed by "sunny days" and warmer temps.  Talk about a flip flop situation - and not of the footwear vaariety.  After all itt's Denver. . .

As always, love your pondering, Michael! Funny you should mention that you talk to yourself - I do that in private but, am so rarely 'in private.' BUT, my hubby does it and it drives me NUTS! I'll be in my office and he'll be talking to himself. I ask what he's saying and he can't hear me. I get up from my desk and go to him and ask what he said and it's almost ALWAYS, "Oh, just talking to myself!" Half of the time, my response is, "Oh my gosh, YOU ARE CRAZY!!" LOL

And, don't ever worry about the clutter until you're ready to address it - we are ALL a work in-progress, Michael!!

Oct 29, 2023 07:57 PM

Debe Maxwell, CRS - clutter of many (maybe all) kinds is a an-almost constant reminder of the some of the stuff we bring and take with us over our lives.  Some people seem to specialize in the storage of it.  It makes me wonder if that's why the proliferation of those depositories of stuff kinda places spill out (and over) in some areas.

I think, (I know many will contest that) most of our short comings are self imposed by outside influences. I believe that you are a very logical person that doesn’t deserve a work in progress stigma 🙂

Paul S. Henderson, REALTOR®, CRS - your comment has me thinking.  I understand that work in progress may seem like a stigma or even a cliche of sorts to some but I continue to wear that label.  Although I appreciate you thinking kindly of the logic you observe, I make many mistakes in that school of thought.   Often over and over.  And then again.

Hi Michael Jacobs. Truly an interesting topic for discussions. We have to deal with transitions with every step we take in life. I can never get used to moving into the fall seasons as I hate the cold weather. However, whenever I am transitioning from one job to another or one career to another, I like to look at the big picture to make things workout out smoothly.

Jerry Newman - you're right, seeing the big picture isn't necessarily easy but important.
