Getting Out of the City....and TRAFFIC

Got a great night's sleep, and ready to tackle the day!   Started out raining, so had breakfast at the hotel.   Had coffee in my room, but it was instant coffee!   NO WAY, had to go to the restaurant and get a real cup.

There are TV shows that are in English, with Portugese subtitles, so was able to watch a movie before sleeping.

Lisbon has a population of 3 million, then you have all the tourists!  OH MY, it is quite bustling, and the traffic is tough to maneuver.   It took 1.5 hours to go 5 miles from the airport.   You stop at every light!

Today ventured south across the bridge to Sesimbra, and WOW, I could live there part-time!  SO beautiful, and everything you would expect from a European city.   High above the City is Sesimbra Castle that was built somewhere around 1165.  Atlantic Ocean to the West and the Tagus River to the South.  All along the way you see lots of vineyards!

There as a walkway on the inside of the wall.   Great place to take photos.

Here is the church.

There was a graveyard outside this church, and some of the tombstones dated back to the early 1800's.

The City of Sesimbra was exactly what you expect from a European City.  SO fun.  The locals said the water was really cold, so did not dip my toes.

Talked with a local that was staying at her 2nd home here, and she said in a month, there won't be anyone in the City and will be boring.

Still a bit weird not knowing what the road signs say.   I have Google translate on my phone, but a bit scary trying to put that into my phone and drive 120.... Ok, maybe not MPH, but still pretty fast.

Had a really nice dinner tonight at my hotel - pesto pasto with shrimp and two glasses of wine - 21 euros.  What a deal!   It was a Portugese wine, and had a 3.9 Vivino rating - very good!

Tomorrow leaving Lisboa (that is what all the signs say) and heading north to Porto.   Adios!

Hi Joan... sounds like you had a lovely day and saw lots of lovely things. Traffic all over Europe is insane. Lots of cars and medieval cities don't exactly exactly go hand in hand. But what do you mean Adios! You're not in Spain! :)))) In Portuguese is adeus! (I know this because I have had a number of Portuguese clients in the past and learned some Portuguese from them!)

Good evening Joan,

Sounds like a wonderful day sightseeing Lisbon. Porto should be a much slower quaint stop.

How exciting! I loved it when I visited the Azores (specifically Sao Miguel where one of my mom's grandparents was from). I'd love to see Portugal some day so am reading your travelogue with interest!

Kat Palmiotti That would be a sweet vacation!    Porto is just beautiful, but another city not so much to drive in - way too many people and the streets are SO narrow.  More to come, just got here late in the day today.
