Saturday Soundness ~ Fermented Honey/Garlic

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Beam & Branch Realty TREC #547752

Last week I promised I would begin sharing some of my favorite all-natural regimines. Whenever I begin to feel things are a bit, "off",  I resort to some of my "go-to" chemical-free, beautifully derived tonics, elixirs, and syrups. I have found these natural options work great and have zero side effects.

Today, I am going to share my fermented honey-garlic miracle syrup. It is super easy to prepare using only two ingredients, fresh, local honey, and garlic cloves. An airtight glass jar will also be needed. Then, just a dark cabinet for a few weeks and, voila - Fermented Garlic Honey Goodness!

Before I share the instructions, let's discuss some of the benefits of this syrup:

🐝 IMMUNE SYSTEM BOOST - Fermented honey and garlic provide a powerful antioxidant, anti-viral, and anti-microbial elixir.

🐝 DIGESTION - Fermented honey and garlic provide a powerful antioxidant, anti-viral, and anti-microbial elixir.

🐝 BLOOD PRESSURE -  Garlic has long been known to reduce blood pressure naturally. The honey-garlic also has been shown to help decrease cholesterol as well.

🐝 ANTI-INFLAMMATORY - The honey-garlic combination also is known for its excellent help with anti-inflammatory conditions in the body such as arthritis.

🐝 BRAIN HEALTH - With the rise in dementia and other aging, brain issues, utilizing these natural ingredients. Both are powerful antioxidants that bind to the toxins that damage the brain and help us get them out of our bodies.

EASY FERMENTED GARLIC-HONEY RECIPE:

20+ cloves of garlic - Locally derived, raw & unadulterated honey - clean, glass jar.

Peel the cloves of garlic (this is the longest part of the process), place them in a jar, and cover them completely with honey. Place the jar in a dark cabinet for 2-3 weeks. Once fermented, you are ready to use this wonderful elixir.

USES:

Take a spoonful daily.

Use to make delicious salad dressings.

Baste onto chicken, fish, meat, and pork.

This is a great time of year to make your fermented honey-garlic. When you begin to feel a sore throat coming on, take a spoonful of this golden syrup several times a day. Our family has found it to be a great way to ward off the yucky bugs that can creep up. Enjoy!

I love garlic however I have not acquired a taste for honey.  I need to explore that more. I believe there is a reason why we want to use/eat local honey however I do not know why. I am scratching my head wondering where I would get local honey.  More for me to explore Dr. Paula McDonald

Kathleen Daniels, Probate & Trust Specialist When I lived in Houston (before I moved to FL) I had awful sinus headaches and issues. I took a tablespoon of locally pollinated honey every day and never had another issue. Usually your farmer's market has local honey.

Kathy Streib - great question. Due to the fact that you are fermenting the garlic, you would need to make a new batch. I like to keep several going so I never run out.

Kathleen Daniels, Probate & Trust Specialist - a great place to find your local honey is at a local farmer's market. Also, some health food stores may have it as well.

Paula, this is a good recipe, and with Kathy's experience of fresh honey removing sinus issues, it sounds like something I would try. New honey is more liquid, and a year old honey becomes more textured. Would the year old textured local honey still allow the garlic fermentation to happen?

Steffy Hristova - I would most definitely use the more liquid honey. It is much easier to pour and you will be able to see the bubbles of fermentation through the process.
