Nerdin Gardens: Size Isn't Always Important

 

Bountiful harvests are the result of cultivating, tilling and careful planting that goes into the garden at the start of the spring season in Nerdin Gardens. Though growth has slowed, we are still pulling fresh fruits and vegetables almost every day.

 

So far, we have picked zucchini, crook neck squash, cucumbers, tomatoes, basil, oregano, thyme, onion chives, garlic, sage, jalapeño peppers, bell peppers, red peppers, strawberries, asparagus, green beans and snow peas and more.

 

Production was enough to can a couple hundred jars of pure deliciousness, from sweet chili sauce (my mother-in-law’s recipe), zucchini relish, jams galore (peach jalapeño, apricot, strawberry), stewed tomatoes, almonds for future use. 

 

The grapes and muscadines are almost ripe and it's a trick to keep the birds from enjoying them before we do. Mike and I are thankful every day while watching our garden grow. Fall is upon us and the end of season draws near but as long as it continues to feed us, we will give the plants the deserved attention!

You sure do know how to title a post for click-bait Miss Wanda Kubat-Nerdin - Wanda Can! 

I will say, that when it comes to things like peppers, zucchini, tomatoes, and other veggies and some fruits, I look the the smaller or smallest ones. In that case, size does matter to me.

Understandable, Kathleen Daniels, Probate & Trust Specialist. We use all sizes of zucchini, the smaller ones for fresh salads and the larger ones for homemade relish and breads. Cherry tomatoes for Caprese Salad Skewers with fresh Basil & Mozzarella and the larger ones for sandwiches and burgers. We enjoy them all!

Have enjoyed that this growing season. I made fresh crook neck and basil soup last night and we ate it again tonight for dinner, Kathy Streib. It is simply delicious!

I've said it before but if we lived closer, you would definitely get a share.
