Motivational Monday
- Unleash the Power of NOW! 💥⏰
Many of us struggle to stay fully engaged in the present due to endless diversions. Think about it, our lives are a maze of distractions, and the list of things that can pull us out of the moment just keeps growing!
We may concentrate on a single task for a bit but, before you know it, another thought, ping, call or social media notification hits—and we're off chasing the next shiny object, leaving our main task in the dust. My recommendation, recognize these focus-stealers and craft a strategy to dodge them.
If you find your attention waning, hit the brakes; pause and take a deliberate moment to be fully present. Struggling with this? Consider meditation or yoga as tools to train your brain for better mindfulness.
When you're interacting with someone, truly HEAR them. I’ve shared this here before but, some people do not actively listen - they listen ONLY with an intent to respond. They’re not being selfish. Instead, they’re trying to make YOU happy and give you a response.
But, when we listen with an intent to respond, we miss key facts and don’t really HEAR what others are sharing. Listen without already formulating your reply. One effective method is to listen out of genuine curiosity, not in anticipation of your next words.
Mastering mindfulness is usually a learned skill; it's not always easy to be completely in the here and now, especially with the ever-increasing distractions around us. Aside from attentive listening, one hack I've discovered is time-blocking.
Why does this work? My go-to tactic is what I dub "over-blocking." Each calendar event is purposefully planned with a little extra cushion, giving me small windows to do the simple joys—like taking spontaneous photos of blooms, fielding unexpected calls, making impromptu calls, or scrolling through social media. This even helps to reduce my stress about punctuality, a pet peeve of mine—but that's a topic for another day!
Don't miss life's magic moments—listen attentively, practice mindfulness and catch those subtle hints that could turn out to be game-changers in either your life or those you care about.
Remind yourself daily of Jim Elliot’s quote: “Wherever you are, be all there."
Happy Monday!
