This month Dr. Paula McDonald and Kathy Streib are hosting the September ActiveRain Challenge titled "Let's Get Serious About Writing a Blog Series." Through my 17 plus years of writing blogs on ActiveRain I have written many series of blogs. My most notable series of blogs is one I write yearly on the progression of the Fall Colors here in Connecticut. However, this months challenge only requires a series of 3 blogs, so I have decided to write about my three most favorite mortgage transactions as a Loan Originator.
The Third favorite mortgage experience I have chosen is very special because of the Borrower and her family's situation. It was not an easy loan, in fact it is one of the loans that I have worked the hardest on in order to get it approved.
There was not only a lot of work done by me, but my Underwriter, and Processor as well. Everyone took an interest in getting this loan done, and wanted to see this Borrower improve her situation, and well as that of her children. Life had been dealing her lemons, and it was about time for her to get a break.
My Underwriter and Processor put more time and energy into this loan than I have ever seen them do before. Now mind you they give it their all on every loan, but this went way above what would have been expected. You can read more about this "Special Mortgage Experience", by clicking on this link.
When her loan closed the smile on the Borrower’s face was from ear to ear, as was the smile on her children’s face when they heard the news. The Closing was a pleasure to be at, and very gratifying to see her get the keys to her first house. My closing words to her once she had the keys to the house in her hands was, “a lot of people went to bat for you to make this happen for you and your family, don’t let them down. Show them that all the work they put into this was worth every second of their time”.
Many times we put a lot into a loan and never hear from the Borrower again. They were happy to get the house, but once the loan Closes we do not hear from them again until they are once again looking to do something else. But every once and a while after they have moved into their new home, they remember those that helped them get there.
Such was the case with this borrower. She appreciated what everyone did for her, and received a thank you card from her with the following:
George,
Thanks so much for making it possible, you didn't give up on me. People ask me "how in the world you own a home", I can't believe it myself. My kids are so happy, I owe it to you. God bless you and your family
Forever grateful,
Two years to the date from when her loan closed she showed up at my office with a big smile on her face, because she wanted to personally tell me she had done what I asked, and made everyone of her monthly payments for two years on the first of every month.
The story does not end there. A month later her name was pulled out of a drawing we had every month for a free mortgage payment for those Borrowers who pay the mortgage on or before the first of the month.
This Loan was as special an experience as they get. The loan was not about the loan size or commission, the sales price was less than $100,000. But it was more satisfying than if it had been a $1,000,000 loan.
