As most of my blog post readers know, thanks to Ricki Eichler McCallum I'm back to reading, not just collecting, books again. If you missed my review of her first book, Snow Fire, (a story of murder, suspense and intrigue) I have conveniently attached a link to it at the bottom of this post for your reference. Ricki also sent me a copy of the sequel, Snow Fire 2 Revenge & Justice, which I read just as quickly! May I also add both books are autographed first editions, always a big plus in my book (pardon the pun).
Not wanting to post any spoilers, may I suggest doing yourself a favor and buying both books. When you finish the first book, you are left with many unanswered questions and you crave closure! Hence if you have the sequel already at hand, you'll be able to delve right in and keep the pace going.
The character development is excellent; so many I found to be despicable, and they did not redeem themselves into my thinking otherwise. There were times as I was reading, I was yelling at the characters in my mind "Why are you doing this? Why do you want to go there? How can you go there? " You get the idea - I wasn't just reading, I was caught up and participating in the story like an invisible spectator. As far as I am concerned, it takes a skilled author to make a reader be so engrossed and caught up in the story.
I'm now an anxious fan of Ricki McCallum awaiting another book just as I used to wait for Jack Higgins and John Le Carre to publish their next works. Well done again, Ricki.
