Green Trends 2008

By
Real Estate Agent with EarthSTEPS

Coming up in less than a month is the 2008 Green Trends Conference and Trade Show!

July 30th - August 2nd at the Orange County Convention Center, Orlando Florida

This year promises to be really exciting as we face the reality that green building may soon be the only building that gets done.

In addition to exciting building news, seminars, products and events, there will be a live music performance by the Charlie Daniels Band!

For more information, check out the Southeast Building Conference website.

Eric,

I could not agree more! I'm doing exactly that here in Tally. I do free energy ratings with my sellers and provide consulting on green staging to help the homes gain market advantage, while simultaneously adding low-cost quality to the property.

You made an interesting point when you mentioned, " ....we face the reality that green building may soon be the only building that gets done."

I would love to have some research on this...

Hi Larry,

There's a lot of interest in geothermal these days... it's totally cool stuff!   Cheap, simple, and generally big savings!!

Hi Bill,

Thanks. It should be quite the event. Looks like you have a lot going on yourself. Sorry to see about the blood disorder!?

Hi JaneAnne,

I agree that that was an "interesting" (read: bold) statement. I think it is definitely coming down the pipeline sometime soon though. I recently was given a heads-up about Dallas' plans to require ALL buildings (commercial and residential) to be constructed green: third-party certified... I don't have the details on hand, but will try to get it together for you - that is just one example though of what I think we are all seeing all around.

Florida's building code is so strict these days - basically coming close to Energy Star requirements, that Energy Star homes built in Florida are going to have to be a much higher standard than the rest of the nation, simply to keep the Energy Star designation meaningful!?

Sounds like a great conference, unfortunately it's too far away for me to go to it, so hopefully you'll share some of the highlights with the AR community!

It seems like the biggest green trend is that we are going from niche market to mainstream. Should be a good conference and I look forward to hearing a report on the event Alex. Pretty funny that Charlie Daniels is playing a green conference.

Hey Pete,

I'd agree that that is a major part of what we are seeing now... the speed in which it has happened is somewhat dizzying for some of us old-school greenies!?

Hey Michelle,

I'm going to have to leave that to some other folks to write about... I've got family in town and am having to sit this one out!
