Will MidJourney And AI Images Be The End Of Getty Images?

Real Estate Agent with Progressive Realty (Boise Idaho) www.Progressive-Realty.info DB-17066

Let me share my experience with MidJourney.  It has made a believer out of me!

I was married to my wife for 37 years before she passed away due to cancer.  I am so out of the dating game, I was having to ask my three sons for dating advice since they have all found amazing soul mates which they have married. My how things have changed since 1983!

I had some idea when my oldest son came up with an idea for a dating site for men specializing in Czechoslovakian woman for a high school project a decade ago.  At the time, he was single and not totally sold on the institution of marriage.  Therefore, he named it - CzechMate.

Then, a very good friend of mine whom also lost his wife to cancer, offered to help me set up an online profile since he found an amazing woman that he just married on Match.com.  I always felt I preferred to meet women here in my community based on finding her at some common interest event or something. Well, three years later, still no such luck. I guess it was time to teach this old dog a new trick or two.

I started looking online and wow what a shock!  Finally, I found an amazing young lady.  I kind of freaked out my kids when I showed my kids this amazing woman I found online.  I assured all three of my sons and their wives that I don't need to do a prenuptial and I assured them that no matter how great this new relationship might develop into, I promised I wouldn't run off and get married again.

Why not? Well, to start with - she isn't real! She claims to be from Finland and is an AI Influencer raking in alarming number of followers. https://futurism.com/ai-generated-influencers. Maybe that is why I am kind of attracted to this particular AI female, she reminds me a little of the Finnish twins I dated back in high school. However, that is a different story for another day.

Sorry, I digressed! Now, back to our originally scheduled blog . . .

Why would a marketing company want to pay companies, like Getty Images, to use stock photos that other people probably paid to use before when they can let your imagination roam and create their own unique custom images? I don't think they will for much longer.

I know I will be subscribing to this service! I plan to use it for my real estate company, Progressive Realty Corporation, and the real estate education classes that I teach.

LOL, you are SO funny Jim!    I tried online dating for years, and probably had 199 crappy dates.   I gave up, and now have some wonderful good friends, male and female.

I haven't even tried.  Well, I just changed that . . . I was curious and typed in "SugarMamma" dot com.  It redirected me to "CougarLife" dot com. Unfortunately, due to AI, my ads and FB feeds will bombard me with ads for dating sites now.

Look like a keeper to me, Jim! Seriously, I've recently heard a lot about this AI dating... the mind boggles. Somehow, I always believe that someone is out there if we are open to it... you just don't know when they might appear in your life. But forcing it never works.

Nina Hollander, Broker  Some say the odds of finding your soulmate is 1 in a million. The world population is about 8 billion so that should give me 8,000 to consider.  I am straight so that brings me down to about 4,000.  If I drop out those too young/old . . . probably 1,000.  3/4 are probably already married so I am down to 250.  Now to factor in politics, religion, socio-economic factors, etc. and I am probably down to about 10. Yep, I am looking for a perfect 10.

OMG you're cracking me up on Sunday morning Jim!  Good luck on your job.......LOL!  No doubt you'll be successful at whatever route you take!

I'm glad I'm not single and honestly if I was there's not a chance I'd want some AI boyfriend.  No thanks!  I'll leave that to the dreamers or whatever that path would be called!

Anna "Banana" Kruchten I am totally OK being single the rest of my life.  It is way easier to do what I want when I want if I have all the votes. I have lots of friends in all walks of life so that keeps me out and about. Heck, I am not even ready for another dog and they are as loyal and kind as possible.

Endre Barath, Jr. I just shake my head when ever I hear of any of these bachelor or bachelorette shows.  I think the core theme is people throwing themselves at their potential future life partners. However, they all want someone who will be loyal.  How will that work out  whenever someone else is "thrown" at them. From what little I know about the "contestants" on these type of shows, I would have ended up a Priest if I counted on them for a mate.

Too cute, Jim.  I believe we are on the threshold of many changes to our lives, with the advancement of AI.  Some will likely be beneficial.  Others, not so much.

Great post! Meeting in real life is really the best method although I have to say it is possible to meet someone on one of the online sites. My hubby and I met through eharmony so it does work!

As for the AI dating, I did read that some people WANT to "date" an AI partner and they have entire conversations/etc. Wow.

Oct 09, 2023 05:45 AM
Jim Paulson

Great to hear that eharmony worked for you Kat Palmiotti.  If I was seriously looking for a new life partner, I probably would go online.  However, I know way too many people that can bluff their persona online pretty well.  There are so many lonely people that fall in love with someone online only to get milked out of their entire savings account before they actually realize the person on the other end of their screen is not who/what they were portrayed to be.  Sometimes, it is hard enough to dig through the layers when people are in "date" mode.

Here is the "real" Finnish girl that dated back in high school that I referenced.  When her and twin sister (not identical but equally gorgeous) started coming over to our house to use the pool, my father said "If I knew you would bring girls like this over, I would have gotten a pool years ago!"

You have a great point about the created custom images. They will have their place.

I still think it is worth asking ourselves these questions:

What is Art?

Why do we need it?

Oct 09, 2023 09:40 AM
Jim Paulson

I love that (no so) simple question Steffy Hristova "What is Art?"

I was shocked that I came up with a pretty profound answer.  "Senses"

Art stimulates your senses whether it be visual, touch, smell, emotions, etc.

Now for your second question: "Why do we need it?I think because it allows us to expand our senses.

When we allow ourselves the opportunity to try to understand that other people don't always see the art (world) the way we do, we can at least agree it is good in it's own way.

Steffy Hristova I was not familiar with Paulo Bruscky but am grateful that we live in America and have Freedom of Speech (excluding Facebook, etc. which puts you in their jail).

Hello Jim Paulson

I am so sorry for the loss of your wife after 37 wonderful years of marriage. In two days, I will celebrate 11 years of being cancer-free from stage 3 breast cancer.  When I hear of others losing that battle, it makes me feel incredibly sad inside.  I digress.

Dated Finnish Twins. Okay, Mr., Do. Tell. All. Another post, another time, but do tell, please.

I see lawsuits on the horizon with copyright issues with AI.

Congrats on being cured!  Kathleen Daniels, Probate & Trust Specialist

I prefer to be an optimist, so instead of dwelling on losing my wife to her two simultaneous stage IV uterine cancers, I actually celebrate she was previously cured of Stage IV Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma.  Her first diagnosis also cured me from being a workaholic since I quickly (finally) realized the true importance of LIFE.

If I can go through some old photo albums, I might be able to find a photo for my twin story. Fun memories.

I concur on lawsuits with AI.  Probably not so much with MidJourney since it actually creates new information verses things like ChatGPT which just regurgitates previous data in a new format.

Leanne Smith in today's world, people get sued for almost everything.  In real estate, buyer's have successfully sued due to a home being "bigger" than stated since they would have a lifetime of upkeep costs on the "larger" home.

I think the safest way to "Not get sued" is to NOT BUY a multi-million dollar umbrella insurance policy.  Before many attorney's will take on a case, they are allowed to figure out what type of insurance you have. If they spend a whole bunch of time and effort to get what little I have, they won't waste their time.  However, if I had a million dollar or more policy they could collect on, guess what, I would probably have to go to court!

Funny thing I also anticipate lawsuits. If agents rely on GPS and GPS is wrong and someone is hurt or much worse, I see this happening with GAI content and photographs.

Unfortunately our dear government does not connect colon cancer with Agent Orange. My husband served in Vietnam. His unit was the first in an area after the area had been defoliated as he was in military intelligence. He breathe that stuff, slept on the ground with a sleeping bag, etc.

Since we are talking dating... The Millionaire Matchmaker filmed an episode featuring a woman that lived in my (12 unit) building. I am on the first floor, it's a Saturday morning, I wake upm peak my head out the window to see what the weather is like...next thing I know, I see a group of people hanging outside of my apartment, which is next to the building entrance- with someone screaming "CUT!". It turns out they were starting the episode with the woman exiting the building to be picked up in a limo. I had no idea they were filming or even what they were filming. Months later, I am flipping though some channels- and I see one show where they have an urban street scene- and figured it looked like Manhattan- so I didn't change the channel. Then I comment, that looks like my block...wait it is...that's my building!!! Then I looked up to see what channel/show it was- and that'when I connected the dots- that was the lead up to the scene of the shot I accidentially ruined.
