Fall Has arrived once again in Connecticut, which means it is time for me to begin my Progression Of Fall Colors series I started eleven years ago.  This is a series I hoped to continue for many years, and have been able to do so far, though this year may prove to be a little challenging. The first two years the pictures were of a farm which is only about a minute walk from my house.  Nine years ago I decided to change the location for the 2014 Progression Of Fall Color Series to a lake about 5 minutes from my house on RT17.  I tried that location for two years, but the colors were not as good as I expected them to be.  So seven years ago I decided to change locations again to a site at Lyman's Orchards in Middlefield, CT.  But once again that site did not produce the colors I had hoped for, so three year ago I decided to keep it simple and do my Progression of Fall Colors blog in my back yard. Last year I decided to change locations again, but even though the colors were good, it was not what I expected.

This year because of some time constraints due to my wife's health, I wasn't able to scope out a different sight, so I have decided to do this year's progression of Fall colors once again of my backyard again.  The colors in the past have been good in this location, but I will consider a different locations next year.

The first picture for this year's Progression Of Fall Colors series was taken three weeks ago  just as the colors were starting to change.  The second picture was taken a week later, and as you can see a few of the trees showed a little change, but nothing significant.  However, the third picture taken last week shows a more significant change in color, and the colors were much brighter than the week before.

This week I expected the trees to start to loss some of their leaves and color, but nothing like what happened.  We had lots of rain and some wind early in the week.  As you can see from both the feature photo, and the last to pictures below, the change was significant not only from last week, but even more so from the beginning of the week to the end of the week.  The beginning of the week started out like what I expected the change to be for this week, but in just a few days the rain and the wind cause the trees to not only to  loss many of their leave, but a significant loss in color as well.  This means we got to enjoy the gorgeous Fall colors for just a short period of time this year.

By the end of next week most of the trees will not only have lost their color, but most of their leaves as well.  I am thankful we got to enjoy some beautiful colors this year, and I look forward to enjoying them again next year, but hopefully for a little longer than this year.

Fall is a beautiful time of the year in New England, and even though the last couple of years have been better than the some of the earlier years of this series, they still have not had the pop I have been looking for.  I have become spoiled by the beautiful colors we normally see during the Fall, so I am hoping this year the colors are truly outstanding.  My favorite colors are the trees with yellow, orange, and rust color leafs when they blend together.

Anyone planning to come to New England to enjoy our Fall colors at their peak, should plan on coming between the last two weeks in October to the beginning of November.  It is still to early to get a feel for what the colors will be like this year, but I will be trying to show the progression of the trees as they turn colors throughout the Fall.

Fall Has Arrived In Middletown, Connecticut and I hope you follow my series of the change in Fall colors starting with this First Blog Of The 2023 Progression Of Fall Colors In Middletown, CT.

Hi George- I look forward to this every year!  I think I said this before but this year was one of the best!  I don't know if it was because of where you took the photos or weather but I love the vibrant colors.

Your progression of colors are becoming more beautiful by the day, George.  While out and about today, I still see little change in color here in Sacramento.

George Souto  as much as I love your progression posts I feel sad for you that the next post will be about winter.... personally, I never liked the harsh four seasons when I lived in your part of the world and I am grateful that our four seasons are not as harsh as yours, Endre

Wow, a lot of the leaves are gone already. It seems as though that was fast!

The progression is so beautiful.  How long after the leaves fall off does it take for them to grow back?

Hi George... you had some very nice colors this year. We are starting to see them in earnest in Charlotte, but I suspect that many trees will lose their leaves before they get a chance to change color (like the one in front of my house).

Hi George,
First of all, I hope your wife is doing ok!  Your yard is a lovely spot to enjoy the Fall colors. If all goes according to plan, I hope to be in your area next Fall to see it in person.

Hi George Souto - I think your images have shown great color in this location.  I know from watching my own yard, that the summer weather as well as the fall weather can change the whole look of the color.

George Souto - Your Autumn colors came so vividly. You captured them perfectly! We can never expect to have control over how long it lasts but to make the most of what we have when the time comes. Your photographs were absolutely beautiful! And you were there to see it all! You were not traveling overseas to miss it. No. You were there to witness the beauty of the season. Thank you for sharing.

Your posting of the color changes of Fall are fun to see. I am now inspired to make my own post of colors. At least, I think I will.
