Gratitude: Friends for Life
Many of you know that I'm a golfer, and have played my whole life. After college I came west to play on the mini-tour. Over the course of 6-7 years I met and played golf with many wonderful women. We travelled together, practiced, competed against each other, and cheered each other on. The life was not glamorous- it could be grueling on the road for months, and remember... this was back before cell phones and the internet. We would play 20+ tournaments and be away from home most all of that time; Players West, Futures Tour, some went to Australia and Asia.
When you spend so much time together there is a bond unlike even school friendships. We helped each other thru life challenges beyond golf. We were there for each other. Kind of like a sorority of golfers! Several of our buddies went on to play the LPGA, some chose marriage and motherhood, others followed careers in teaching or opportunities outside of golf.
I am grateful that I had the luck or fore site to settle in and make the Palm Springs area my home-- because so many of my golfer girlfriends did the same. After tour life many of us got jobs here or settled down and married. It is such a golf centric and beautiful place to live, with incredible weather most of the year.
We are fortunate to be able to get together and spend some time together, tell stories, laugh, and remain friends after all these years. For this I am grateful. The friendships I made many years ago remain and will continue as we get older. We even play some golf together when we can! How cool is that!?
