With Veterans Day coming up at the end of the week I wanted to relay my thanks to all the young men and women who volunteer to defend this great nation.
This is my second entry into the November challenge by Debe Maxwell, CRS to express (once a week during the month of November) what we are grateful for.
Every branch of the service is to be honored as together they are the greatest military in the world.
BUT
I am, of course, most thankful for the United States Air Force being my daughter is part of it through The Wisconsin United States Air Force Guard.
Tina started her journey into military life in High School through the Jr. ROTC program here in Minot ND. She was in the program for 3 years until she graduated. After High School graduation she looked into what the Air Force could do to help further her education. A trip to the United States Air Force Guard office in Minot was a real blessing as they saw her as a good fit for Civil Engineering and that they (through the Wisconsin USAF Guard) would pay for her education at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design. This union has been a wonderful blessing for Tina. Tina to MIAD originally to be an illustrator for Disney or Pixar but as she has matured it looks like she will graduate (with Highest Honors) destined to be a book illustrator.
She loves the Guard so much she feels she will stay in it for life. Civil Engineering is teaching her so many things that will be handy for here as a home owner. Last summer vacation, from school, she thought the best way to spend her time would be to go to welding school, something she paid for out of her own pocket.
Here is part of Tina's Military bio.
Active in Air Force ROTC 2014 - 2018
Enlisted September 2018
Base: Milwaukee WI
Deployments to:
Japan
Kuwait
Her awards and decorations include:
Air & Space Outstanding Unit Award
Air Reserve Forces Meritorious Service Medal
National Defense Service Medal
Global War on Terrorism Service Medal
Nuclear Deterrence Operations Service Medal
Air & Space Longevity Service Award
Air & Space Training Ribbon
All of this yet she is one of the meekest and modest persons I've ever known. She will (and has) dropped everything to help a friend in need... and everyone is her friend. More than once, in fact many times, I have heard peple comment as to how Tina's smile lights up the room.
Let me reiterate, I am grateful for ALL branches of service and ALL the young men and women who protect us... but I am particularly proud of one soldier, Tina N. Timm
