There is a place that I often access within a couple blocks of my home. I continue to regard this special place as a blessing, and a treasure in my life. The American River Parkway spans 23 miles, and covers 4,800 acres, and stretches along the American River, from Old Sacramento to the City of Folsom.
No matter how much mischief life may get into, a little walk, bike ride, or even drive to the Parkway, magically transports to a freer mind. Nature sets the world right once again.
At least once a week, I make certain to take in the serene views of the river, the fauna and flora. The Parkway is home to deer, coyotes, rabbits, possums, raccoons. Etc.
A couple of days ago, I was able to have a different experience, when hundreds of sheep and goats had been brought in to munch on dry grasses in one section to mitigate wild fire damage. No two visits to the Parkway are the same. On this visit, I captured this photo of the dog, watching over his "crew," while he comfortably lounged.
This time of year, the salmon are making their run from the ocean, up the American River to spawn. The Nimbus Fish Hatchery is along the Parkway, and makes for an interesting place to visit. During spring, summer, and fall, it's not unusual to find rafters and kayakers on the river. It's peacefully quiet there. And, no motorized boats are allowed on this stretch of the river. Each season provides special beauty and opportunities to partake.
