Christmas Decorations?

By
Real Estate Agent with The Realty Group, LLC

     I'm feeling rushed!

I went shopping for pin wheels to add some pizazz to my open house signs.  It's July, summer is in full swing - what better time to find season-related items for sale, right?

Wheeling my basket through the bowels of the craft store, the first thing I see are the traditional colors of Fall - complete with pumpkins and draping garlands of leaves the colors they turn before falling off the trees.  I felt underdressed in my flip flops and shorts and confused by the outside temperature, a balmy  95 degrees in the shade.

Around the corner - TA DA!!  Christmas decorations!  Boxes lined up assembly style in the middle of the aisles, stockers stuffing the bins with Christmas bulbs, baubles and ribbons, fake greens with a dusting of "snow."

Where oh where is Santa in a speedo when you need him?

Following the intermittent, strange, moaning sounds woven into the overhead elevator music.  I cautiously wheeled my squeeky cart down a darkened aisle - Holy Cow!  Halloween costumes!

Why don't we just combine the cool weather holidays into one mega holiday: Dress up as a turkey or Santa Clause for Halloween, throw in the Easter Bunny for good measure.  Have a Merry Thanksgiving!

Sheesh, what's the rush?

Summer is the peak selling season in my market!  We need all the time we can get!

Hi Alyce, maybe some kind of Santa themed pin wheel on your sign might draw attention more than a red white and blue one. I agree the Christmas (and Halloween) season has been extended a little too far back. That's craft stores for you. Selling all the holidays ALL year long.

Alyce,

I just saw the same thing this past week while out shopping for one of my clients.  I couldn't believe it when I saw all of the Halloween and Christmas inventory filling two full aisles!  It's really ridiculous, I think it gets earlier and earlier every year!  Maybe that''s what they mean by Christmas in July! =)

LOL Oh yes, a little too early for me to be thinking Christmas already!  I haven't seen any decorations out around here yet, but we do have a lot of Christmas Tree Shops around the area.  Holidays sell, I guess we're in the wrong business!  LOL

Sincerely,

Kathleen

Hi Gary - A Santa Spinner! Pretty crazy.  I just remember when I was younger how exciting it was when the weather would turn cooler and Christmas items would slowly creep into the stores around Thanksgiving.  It really added to all the excitement.  Now it just seems like a chore.

Hi Michelle - did you go to Hobby Lobby?  Maybe in September everything will be on sale!  Some people here still have their Christ lights up.  Maybe they're on to something (LOL).

Michael - LOVE YOUR CO. NAME!!  Stage coach - that's rich!  I guess they have to fill their shelves with something!  I'm waiting for their pears to go on sale at Hobby Lobby.  The weighted ones are the best!

Kathleen - Christmas tree shops?  Holy cow, that's reallly pushing it.  Storing decorations is one thing, but a tree?  Wonder what that thing will look like come Christmas?

No wonder we all complain that the years fly by...

This "living in fast-forward" stuff is getting to be insane.

I want to stay out of the stores that do this...but they all do this.

I think a great advertising campaign would be... "We guarantee our store to be reasonably seasonal."

I'd shop there, if only not to be reminded in Occtober that my 40th Valentine's birthday is coming up in 5 months.

Laura - with the prices of everything going up, maybe we SHOULD be shopping for Christmas in July (is that the idea?) thanks for stopping by!

Michelle:  "We guarantee our store to be reasonably seasonal."  That's hilarious!  Happy early birthday!  The 40's are a great time.  Hope you gals are going well!

Hi Alyce,

Maybe if they keep pushing everything up it will eventually catch up with the real season.

Hey Lanre: I have a bad habit of buying gifts all year - if I see something that reminds me of someone I'll buy it and store it and FORGET IT come Christmas time.  I'm really, really bad about that but someone has to keep the economy going!!

Susan - You are spot on!  It would be like an eclipse - every few years we could expect Christmas decorations around the holiday.  I'm not a math whiz - how many rotations would that take?

and MR JEAN-MARIE NIJS (wow, what an impressive name! and I have a bouvier des flandres which is an extremely rare breed here in NM - instant soul mates!) - now that we're heading toward October the winking Santa Clauses holding a turkey and wearing a skeleton mask doesn't seem so wierd but July was just pushing it too much for me.  Nothing like shopping for Christmas decorations with the air conditioner blowing full blast.  I'm so far south I don't know your holidays - do you have Halloween? And what's up with Box Day?
