This post is my first entry in Acts of Kindness | Sharing Love & Joy This Holiday Season the December 2023 Active Rain Challenge.
The category chosen for this post is: Share One of Your Acts of Kindness.
It typically is not my style to talk about things such as this, however, I am a PROUD supporter of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
From the T2T website:
“Since 9/11, we have been helping America’s heroes by providing mortgage-free homes to Gold Star and fallen first responder families with young children and by building specially adapted smart homes for catastrophically injured veterans and first responders. We are also committed to eradicating veteran homelessness and helping America to Never Forget September 11, 2001.”
When I see a commercial for Tunnel to Towers, most of the time I choke up, and my eyes well up. Hearing the recipients’ stories and what the foundation has done for them, and their families, is POWERFUL.
YES, I support this. It is such a small thing to do for those who have given so much, including the ultimate sacrifice of their lives.
What does it mean to be a supporter? For me, it means making monetary donations. No matter how many donations I make, the mailers keep coming! Powerful marketing that works!
As they ask in the commercials, $11.00 a month is what I give in addition to other random donations.
Unlike so many other “charitable organizations” the bulk, 95% of donations go directly to the programs.
The video below is just one example of a T2T.org recipient.
This is near and dear to my heart for so many reasons. My father was a disabled veteran. The entire family lived with his limitations. I watched how he suffered physical pain. Over the years he became addicted to some very powerful painkillers. Adding to that, he mixed painkillers with alcohol. He eventually got the help he needed. But this is not about my father.
This is about acts of kindness, doing small things that make a big difference, my love for my Country, and giving back to the heroes who fight to keep us safe while we sleep in the comfort of our homes.
