RECYCLE RIGHT IN MECKLENBURG COUNTY

Did you know that it's costing Mecklenburg County more than $1.8 million annually to clean up non-recyclables? A lot of manhours are spent sorting out the un-recyclable material from the recyclable material. And it's the tax payers who are footing this bill. That's all of us who live in Charlotte, Pineville, Davidson, Matthews, Mint Hill, Cornelius, Huntersville in Mecklenburg County. Let's all get behind recycling right and save our tax payer dollars for really important things!

Jeffrey DiMuria 321.223.6253 Waves Realty hi Jeff... I try to clear out files regularly. Some of them do need to be shredded, but for some reason even though paper can be recycled, shredded paper cannot be recycled.

Sheri Sperry - MCNE® here in Mecklenburg County each home gets two bins: a green one for recycled material and black for regular trash. The green bins are emptied every other week.

Will Hamm hello Will... I've never seen cork on the list of recyclable items. Meantime, these days a lot of wine comes with a screw off top.

Hi Nina- I love the illustrations!!!  It has become a habit with us to recycle things. In fact, we have more recycle bins than actual trash.

More communities should have a solid recycle program, Nina. From what I understand the majority goes to the dump anyway. I remember collecting glass soda bottles as a kid and turning them in for money. Boy, did we ever travel (on foot) far and wide to find them!

When we started our county recycling program I was elected to go to the elementary school classrooms and get the kids excited about recycling. It was a huge success Nina 🙂

Wanda Kubat-Nerdin - Wanda Can! hi Wanda... I don't know if it's still the case in New York City, but we used to get 5 cents back for each soda can returned to the grocery store (of course, they upped the price of soda by an equal amount).

Endre Barath, Jr. the city gives us a huge bin for recycling items and picks it up curbside every two weeks. The really large stuff goes to the recycling center, which fortunately isn't but about 5 minutes from my house. But I don't go there more than maybe twice a year. I've often left larger stuff next to my bin and the guys do pick it up when they empty the bin.

My recycle can is always filling up quicker than my waste can but also the city has cut back on what they allow to be recycled.

In Gaithersburg, we are thankful for weekly recycle collections. The city provides the recycle bins.
