It is important to celebrate the roles that women have played in improving so much for so many. Women have played pivotal roles in history and they deserve our gratitude. If it weren't for countless women serving in positions to enact change, women would not have gained so much. For those women, I am grateful!
There are so many outstanding women who have accomplished so much that it would be foolish to start a list for fear of eliminating even one amazing woman. For this post Thankful Challenge, I'd like to focus on one amazing woman - Rosalynn Carter.
Rosalynn faced challenges like a lot of women growing up in the 1940's. Women were still expected to wear dresses in public, in schools, everywhere. Women weren't assuming leadership roles, much less being given the opportunity. Women were subservient to men and told to be polite, not vocal. Imagine that Rosalynn was a timid, shy child. Hard to believe given her accomplishments.
Rosalynn also accomplished much to help so many when Jimmy Carter was Governor of Georgia. Anyone who champions mental health, helping those who often cannot speak for themselves, is to be commended. Rosalynn's dedication to mental health issues became a life long legacy. She was also a humanitarian, championing MANY causes throughout her life, including wearing a toolbelt into her 80's helping build or remodel Habitat for Humanity homes.
During the inauguration in 1977 of her husband, Jimmy Carter as the 39th President, they both walked down Pennsylvania Avenue instead of riding in a limousine as others had done in the past. Working for change seemed to be the start of 4 good years in the White House with Rosalynn by his side.
With gratitude for a wonderful legacy and profound influence for so many .
