It is just another Thursday in November, Nebraska style. Yesterday was the last day of the year with warm temperatures according to the weatherman! Woke up today to sunshine and brrr. The biggest difference on this 4th Thursday is it is a day we celebrate and thank those who made our country what it is.
I want to thank a certain group of folks that includes so many people in my life...
The American Farmer!! And those industries that support them!
The vast majority of crops have been harvested in Nebraska...the corn is in the bin or bag or on the pile at the elevator. And the farmers are thankful.
Equipment has been cleaned up and put into storage...well, most of it...some folks leave it out all year and even a few never clean it..but I digress.
Although crop prices are way down and actually almost down to a break even threshhold for many farmers...I know that all of my farming friends and family are Thankful for another crop season that is in the books and will look forward with optimism to the spring planting.
I also know...because I ride with many of them during spring planting and fall harvest.
I know that they are very passionate about America and they are patriotic and thankful for what they have...they are great stewards of the land and waters...and they appreciate every single person who provides them services from the military to the local enforcement to the EMT's and firefighters...and to those who make their individual world a large family.
That includes teachers, health providers, clergy, spouses, families, and so many more.
I have never seen an industry that works so hard with so many high expenses with such low profit margins...and yet they love what they do and they do it well.
And I am thankful that I have many friends, family, and clients that are in the farming industry. I am thankful that I will see many of them this week and next.
If you are reading this...then you are blessed to be living somewhere that you have internet access...many farmers do not have great access.
I still believe we live in the greatest country in the world...and I still believe that in spite of the politicians...we can do a better job helping
others around the world.
As for my family...it is time to celebrate and be thankful...and to remember those who went before us and made it possible!
Happy Thanksgiving to each of them, past and present, and to all of you!!
Let's work harder to build our lasting legacy and insure our lands are able to sustain those who come long after we are gone!
Until Next Time...Enjoy Life!!
and watch that tummy!! Gobble Gobble Mike
