Utah Named Preferred Host of Winter Olympics in 2034!
Could it happen again? That remains to be seen, as all with be revealed in due time.
The International Olympic Committee will officially announce this event next year. Utah was home to the Winter Olympics back in 2002 and also known as, Salt Lake 2002, it put our great state on the map, you might say.
When it was announced that the Winter olympics would take place in 2002, 45% of Utah's people were against it because of the terroristic acts that took place in Georgia during their olympic event. Understandable!
The economy in Utah was better than most other states in America due to proactive building standards, especially transportation infrastructure. And the economy of today's Utah continues to get better with each year.
The public invested in the Olympic venues, voting to to give $59MIL to the facilities with the hopes of attracting the winter games. It worked! After the 2002 games were over, the money was eventually paid back - with interest.
The facilities are still used today and Robert Lyon once said, “We’re still one of the best facilities in the entire world, and everyone knows that and everyone comes here to train.
So it left an amazing impact I think in this community. Everyone would tell you in the towns of Salt Lake and Park City that we would love to have it again someday.”
While the Winter Olympics may take place in northern Utah, the southern part of the state will be positively impacted as well and that's where I come in because Wanda Can!
Will it become a reality again? We'll soon find out!
