Acts of Kindness…From a Stranger

There are times when you are taken aback by the actions of a total stranger.

This happened to me several weeks ago when we were checking out with a very small purchase.

You’ll know the store when I tell you that almost everything there is around a dollar or thereabouts.  Larry and I had lunch in the shopping center and decided to see if they had something he’d been searching for.

The two items we purchased were under $4.00!

Since 2020, we’ve used our credit cards rather than cash.  However, I always have my emergency “stash” in my wallet.

The smallest I had though was a $20 bill.  Not wanting them to have to pay the credit card processing fees, I hunted for it.

Just as I found it, the teenage girl behind me said… “I’d be happy to pay for it.”

Surprised,  I thanked this kind young girl, paid for my items, and told her how she’d made my day.

We read troubling headlines every day about our youth and where they are headed. This thoughtful gesture lifted my spirits more than she could imagine.

Kindness costs us little but the returns are priceless. Let’s make it a habit!

Unexpected kindness is the most powerful, least costly, and most underrated agent of human change. Bob Kerrey

Out of one act of kindness from a stranger is born a flame of hope. That flame ignites an internal love which is contagious.

Good morning Kathy. Must say I am seeing more acts of kindness this time of year in downtown Chicago. Or, is it really a dream? Nope, fortunately it is real. Enjoy your day.

Coming from a teenager, that act of kindness would make my day as well, Kathy Streib

Coming from anyone, it would be wonderful. The fact that is was a teenager, I'm saluting her parents.

What a heartwarming story. That younger person certainly has developed a nice set of values, at least as far as being kind to others! Such a wonderful gesture on her part!
