RECIPE: Sweet & Salty Smokies

Get ready to wow your guests with these amazing bacon-wrapped smokies! They're the perfect mix of sweet and salty - and trust me, they're SUPER easy to whip up. Pop them in the oven, or keep them nice and warm in a slow cooker until party or game time.

Sure, wrapping these little bites of heaven takes a minute, but oh my goodness, are they ever worth it!  These babies were the hit of the party last night!

Without further ado, here’s the easy as 1-2-3 recipe:

Ingredients

  • 1 pound sliced bacon, cut into thirds
  • 1 (14 ounce) package beef or pork cocktail wieners/‘Lil Smokies
  • Metal toothpicks or skewers - I use 5” skewers and place several on one - just to bake them
  • ¾-1 cup brown sugar, or to whatever your taste. I never measure, I just sprinkle!

Directions

  • Wrap the bacon around the smokies, put on skewer.
  • Place skewers on baking dish (no need to grease!)
  • Sprinkle brown sugar on top of all of the smokies.
  • Bake at 375º for 20 minutes. *Sometimes I have to bake a little longer.
  • Remove from skewers and place on serving platter.

These are SO simple and the sweet & savory combo is just the right balance!

ENJOY!

Debe Maxwell, CRS  I would love this, unfortunately Diane would not since it has bacon... unless I substituted it for Turkey Bacon and turkey or chicken hot dogs:)Endre

Endre Barath, Jr., you know I've been turning some of my favorite recipes from my grandmother to healthy ones. It seems to be taking me longer than I have left to live but, by golly, I'm going to get through as many as I can!

This is one that seems so easy to alter but, I haven't yet! SO, if you try the turkey 'Lil Smokies and the turkey bacon, please let me know! I have a feeling they'll be DIVINE!

Oh, they are so simple! Your hands get a little greasy from the bacon but, boy, they turn out beautifully and are always a big hit, Kat Palmiotti.

Oh, Wayne Martin, they have 'healthy' brown sugar (Monkfruit, I believe has a brown sugar version) and it makes a world of difference. You'll have to try it!

Yes, I use a chafing dish and they keep warm very nicely, Dorie Dillard Austin TX. They don't typically last too long though!

I would definitely be munching on a few of these, haha.  I could do without the brown sugar though.

I think the brown sugar makes all the difference! It’s not too much, so it’s not overwhelming, Brian England.
