Sandpoint Realty 'Monday Motivation' - December 4, 2023

Sandpoint Reatly 'Monday Motivation' while true in and of itself, needs be adjusted a bit, in my opinion.

Sandpoint Realty Monday Motivation Adversity

This quote is true to both men and women and they need not be 'great'.  The common person, often unnoticed, fights adversity as well, just not noticed by as many.

I remember a 'River Rafting Trip' from many decades back.  Our guides promised us a special extra, to the trip, if we were interested in a bit of a hike and a little climbing.  A small group of us went.

As we were making our way up the hill, ridges, on what was anything but a well traveled trail we noticed one gentleman having a more difficult time than seemed necessary.

When we made it to our starting point, of the extra adventure, we stood at the edge of an overhang about 40 feet above a large pool created by the hundreds of  years of a stream and the granite rock being carved out.  Our guides explained we would be jumping into 4 or 5 pools bringing us back to our waiting rafts.

By this time word had spread that the gentleman having the difficult time was deathly afraid of heights.  All of us seemed to silently acknowledge his struggle, and the inner battle he must have been experiencing.

No one made an overly big issue of it but did either step in front of him or behind him to give just a little additional assurance he was not alone.  I can not imagine the strength it took to jump from each ledge.

After many river rafting trips and wonderful memories this one sticks strongest with me decades later.  The above quote brings it to mind.

It was by far and away one of the bravest moments I have ever witnessed.

Adversity is certainly a part of life and people become great by overcoming the adversities in their life.

That is some story, Mark. My husband has a great fear of heights. You wouldn't have been able to talk him into any part of this adventure.

Mark Don McInnes, Sandpoint-Idaho I am not a fan of heights, however, I do not let it control me, but I understand the struggle this man was experiencing.

For years, I was afraid of being stuck in an elevator.  And, then one very hot August day much of the power grid failed. It hit Sacramento hard.  Guess where I was.  I was in an elevator, stuck between floors at my real estate office.  It was on a Sunday, so there wasn't many people in the building.  However, one agent at the back of the office, walked by, and I yelled at her when I heard her walking.  She called 911, but it took awhile for the fire department to respond, because the traffic lights were out, causing a major auto accident a few blocks away.  Finally, they came, used a crowbar to pull the elevator doors apart.  Firemen provided a ladder so I could climb out.  What I learned was the experience wasn't as bad as I had envisioned.  The worse part was the heat, which had accumulated inside the elevator on that very hot 100+ day.

Hi Mark- what a remarkable story to illustrate your quote. I can relate to this because I'm not fond of heights and especially not of willingly jumping off things.

Good morning Mark. Many times the adversity many face goes unnoticed. It makes this who face it no less brave for doing so. Thanks for sharing the power of helping others overcome.

I'm not a fan of heights and would have had issues of my own. Sometimes people you would never expect to be brave, are. My husband has a story about a young girl who was terrified of a training exercise where they had to be in a helicopter in water upside down and swim out. She did it. A big huge strong man decided he was going to quit his job instead of doing the exercise. You just never know who will do what.

Overcoming fears is terrifying, Mark, glad you all were able to help him at that time. He probably remembers the experience pretty vividly as well. Happy Sunday to you!
