When Life Gives You Lemons - Make Lemonade!
This is my first entry into the December Active Rain Challenge on Acts of Kindness sponsored by Kathleen Daniels, Probate & Trust Specialist, and Dr. Paula McDonald.
We have all heard that expression when something goes wrong in a situation, but the person chooses to turn it into a positive result. Sometimes, it is used to create a feeling of optimism or a "can do" attitude. Well, it happened to me one day...
BTW - This proverb is attributed to Elbert Hubbard in 1915.
Here is the exact quote....“A genius is a man who takes the lemons that Fate hands him and starts a lemonade stand with them.” – Elbert Hubbard.
Sedona does not have a lot of fast food places. This is probably a good thing. So when my husband or I crave fast food, we usually have to go to a neighboring town. All we have in Sedona is a McDonald's with teal arches and a Subway. There is also a Chipotle in Uptown as well. That is it. All the other well-known brands either did not make it in Sedona or never came here.
So What Does Taco Bell Have To Do With Acts of Kindness?
I was visiting one of my listings recently, so I thought I would bring home a Taco Bell treat for lunch. This Taco Bell is right off Interstate Highway 17 and the SR 260 in Camp Verde. As I was driving, I was thinking about my drive-thru order and just pulled right into the lane where they took the order. See the map below...
After I pulled forward, closer to the take-out window, I noticed the car behind me came from a different direction. ALL OF A SUDDEN, I realized that I had cut in front of 4 other cars waiting to go into the drive-thru. I was MORTIFIED. I got out of my car and apologized to the driver of the car behind me. He said, "Don't worry about it." I couldn't go back to the other three cars to apologize, so I decided to fix this another way.
When I got to the window and paid my bill, I handed $80 to the cashier and told her to use that money to pay for the cars behind me. I was not sure how far that $80 would go, but I was hoping it would, at the least, cover the four cars I cut off.
I am hoping that the deed will resonate with those drivers and they will pay it forward. It is all about intentions. I had nothing but good intentions, and I hope I helped make someone else's day.
