This month Dr. Paul McDonald and Kathleen Daniels are co-hosting the December ActiveRain challenge titled "Acts of Kindness | Sharing Love & Joy This Holiday Season." For this challenge are to write up to 3 blogs about acts of kindness in one or all three of the following categories:
- Act of Kindness of Someone You Know.
- Your Acts of Kindness.
- Act of Kindness that You Witnessed.
For my first blog I have chosen to write about an act of kindness my wife and I were blessed with this year, and also how we in turn were able to play-it-forward. My neighbors will be the focus for my second blog.
I have been blessed to live for 42 years with neighbors who lookout for each other, and just do for one another without being asked. Those of use with snow blowers will help out other neighbors who do not have snow blowers, to clear out their driveways, especially after a major snow storm.
The snowy Winter days is not the only times my neighbors lend a helping hand. When my wife and I go on vacation in the Summer, one of my neighbors always waters my wife's flowers and brings in our mail and news paper. Likewise when the power goes out, I let them plug into my generator since they do not have one.
One of my other neighbors has chickens and gives us fresh eggs throughout the year. In turn when he takes off for long weekends during the Summer, I will cut his lawn.
This Summer one of the trees in my backyard needed to be taken down. I was talking to one of my neighbors about it, and how I was going to purchase a chainsaw to take it down. The next day I look out into my backyard, and he was there on his own with his chainsaw taking the tree down for me.
These are just a small example of how myself and my neighbors help each other throughout the year, and it is all done without giving a second thought about it.
Having neighbors like this gives a good sense of security. Having neighbors who just do for each other is almost like we were family. Help is always their no matter what and without question.
